Sounds like it might be hsv1 since it was from oral sex? I'm no expert, I'm just having my first hsv2 outbreak now. I suggest getting blood test when you get back to the states to confirm anything. They can test for hsv1 and hsv2. It seems that hsv1 and hsv2 are common, so try not to think the worst about the future. There are articles available, on this site even, that explain how to talk to new partners about hsv. I know it's scary and it can change the way you see yourself, but millions of people have this, it's just scarier when it happens to you. I'm going through the same thoughts and emotions here, and it seems so are a lot of others. I hope this helps a little.

It seems like you're having a lot of anxiety surrounding your diagnosis. I would encourage self-care, and research as much as possible from reputable sources. I think it will allay your fears some. I was diagnosed this week with hsv2...this is my first outbreak...and between the flu-like symptoms and the pain, I haven't had time to even think about what the future will be like. But it seems that many people have this 1 in 6 adults, so it's not as rare as we may think. You won't die alone as a spinster. This doesn't have to define you, it's just something you'll have that will flare up from time to time. I'm hoping the outbreaks will be less severe as time goes on, as I've heard. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with this. I was too, the first few days, now I'm just glad the pain is subsiding a little. Just take each day as it comes. Many people live with this. It's not fun, but it's manageable. I think there is literature out there, and even on this site, about how to tell potential partners about your hsv. I'm here if you want to message me!

According to the research I've been doing, I'm pretty sure it can be transmitted at any time, even if you're on antivirals. I believe it makes it less likely to transmit if you're not having an outbreak and on antivirals, but still possible. You should ask a doctor to be sure.

I think the outbreaks are different for everyone and can range from mild to severe. I believe the swab tests for the virus itself. It's always possible there was a lab error. I don't believe that you would have the antibodies in your blood without having the virus. So if a blood test confirms that the antibodies are present, that means the virus is in your system. You should get the blood test retaken if you're unsure. But the fact that you didn't have many symptoms may mean you have a really strong immune system...so that's good!

Hi. I am in the throes of my first HSV2 outbreak and started with the pain in pelvic area, and has since traveled down both of my legs. Feels like electric shocks down each of my legs, mainly my right leg. It's been almost a week of this crippling pain. Now it is more localized to my lower calves and feet. I asked my gynecologist and he said this was not a symptom of hsv2, but I've read online that others have experienced this. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Thanks in advance!
