There are a lot of things this could be, which you already know, because I am sure you have spent time on Google.

I don't know what the bumps are, but if they appeared after masturbation and disappeared quickly, my suspicion is that normal structures (whether part of your lymph system or other glands in the penis) were aggravated, swelled, and then went down. But obviously no one on the internet can diagnose you.

If you had a herpes diagnosis, I would be more inclined to think this could be an atypical presentation of herpes (but I would still not be convinced that it was herpes). But as far as I have seen in your posts, you do not have a diagnosis and your doctors are not highly suspicious that you have herpes.

I think it is interesting that you're able to dismiss one possible explanation because your bumps didn't meet one of the criteria, but you're unwilling to accept that it's not herpes even though if it were herpes the presentation would be quite atypical.

I have herpes. I had a typical primary outbreak and subsequent symptoms that were consistent with herpes. I've had a positive IgG blood test and a positive swab, so I know I have herpes. For a while I thought that every little tingle or itch or bump down there was herpes, so I get this inclination. But not everything is herpes. Even in someone who has confirmed she has herpes, most of the time what I experience down there *isn't* herpes.

I don't know how much longer you have to wait until you can have a blood test done to get a diagnosis, but my suggestion would be to abstain from sex (or disclose) and try to take your mind off this until you actually know. Unless you have very clear herpes symptoms (ie, a blistering lesion) or uncomfortable symptoms that last for more than a week, is it doing you any good to focus on every itch, tingle, swelling, etc down there?

Thanks for your reply. All my symptoms started after an unprotected encounter, which I didn’t consent to. I actually did have uncomfortable really painful symptoms lasting almost 7 weeks with a rash and it responded to antivirals. I was literally in a fetal position for two of those weeks. My doctor I feel is very uneducated on the subject. After this month I’ll be at 16 weeks. Then I’ll blood test again. If it’s negative again then I still won’t believe it because all the inconsistencies and variables. This is a wild ride!

  2. Can herpes present as small flesh colored lesions on a non red base? I had this happen on my glans and they weren’t pearly papules because I know about those. These flesh colored bumps appeared after self stimulation and disappeared in less than 2 days, but followed up with internal pain for two more days.

  3. How many of you experience twitching sensations in your mid back area? Twitching or it can sometimes feel like a pulse matching my heart rate. Also randomly my thighs will spasm. Wondering if this is just anxiety or possibly h related? These are not painful btw just new to me and annoying more active when I’m laying down. Thanks for reading.

  4. Interesting topic. I think it probably just depends on the person and how their body responds to the substance. I was a regular cannabis smoker for over 10 years and since recently experiencing symptoms of hsv (still undiagnosed) I’ve had to stop smoking because of a whole new anxiety that I’ve never had before. So I switched to CBD products like oil and hemp capsules for similar affects without the buzz.

  5. I was on Lysine which helped then I stopped for a couple days. I’m already under weight and vegetarian so now I’m going to have to cut out more foods I’m sure. This feels so un real...I’m also a full time working musician and afraid to date now because so many people know me in my area. If I infect anyone my career is over...playing music is also causing me irritation...my one and only love music walking away from me. (I play drums professionally so you can guess the physical part of it leading to irritation)

  6. I am still undiagnosed but think I have ghsv2. I had a whole series of pain for about 7 weeks with no blisters only serious redness on my penis glans and urethra. Finally started to feel better and look better. Then I decided to pleasure myself and a whole new look came about. I had one little red zit appear about 20mins after on the head and a bunch of red blotches spread out underneath the head. The pimple was gone less than 24hrs, redness soon faded but I had internal pain the next two days. Could this be a reccurent outbreak? Never seen anything like this in me.

I went the next morning for a swab, but the zit/pimple was gone and the swab came back negative. Although it wasn’t even a thorough swab. I am absolutely scared.

Have you ever just had a single pimple looking outbreak before with redness? My pearly pappules also expand and I grew some more flesh colored bumps that also faded. I have yet to have a real blister, but I don’t know what’s happening.

Also, what’s the deal with pain following cleared up visual problems?? It’s internal pain not skin.

  7. Hi, so i just randomly got what looked like a small cut on my inner bottom lip. It did not hurt. The first day it was just red then the next morning it had a couple small white heads that I was able to brush away and now it’s healed. Only lasted about a day and a half. Sound like a cold sore? I don’t remember biting my self or burning...

Why did you take acyclovir for 7 days? What dose did you take?

The dose/regimen for acyclovir for a primary herpes outbreak is usually 400 mg 3x/day for 10 days.

Since your symptoms have returned, have you gone back to the doctor?

Have you had any cultures done? And skin scrapings? Any other non-herpes related blood work? It could be irritation. It could be a bacterial or fungal infection. You say this does not "add up". Add up to what? What you are experiencing does not necessarily add up to herpes.

There are lots of things that can go wrong down there. After I was diagnosed with herpes I had pain, tingling, inflammation, burning, etc. for MONTHS with no blisters. I was swabbed and tested for yeast and bacteria and even had a biopsy and nothing came back positive. I finally saw a different doctor (she is still my doctor now) and she suggested a trial of metronidazole gel (antibacterial/anti-fungal) and I was fixed within a week. My new doctor said it was probably some strain of bacteria that didn't show up on a test.

But I was convinced for months that it was herpes causing my symptoms because of things I read on the internet.

The point is there are LOTS of things that can cause discomfort in that area. A good doctor will help you find a solution to your symptoms. It doesn't sound like you have been to a good doctor yet. I hope you find someone who can really help you.

Also, go get an IgG test. 7 days of acyclovir shouldn't affect seroconversion. I said in an earlier post that if it is negative you will have to get tested again after 12-16 weeks, but if it's positive, you'll know and you can go back on antivirals and get your symptoms under control.

You’re right my doctors were not very helpful...and he just said try acyclovir for 7 days only. That was the urologist, who was not helpful other than giving me anti virals to try. My primary doctor is convinced I don’t have anything based off my negative igg after 5 weeks and says any relief I experienced was likely a placebo effect lol what. I will get retested in a couple months. My urethra is still inflamed, but doesn’t hurt/tingle any more (after 6-7 weeks of pain)...that’s the most concerning thing for me and all the urologist could tell me was try antivirals because I didn’t experience pain urinating. No blisters, glans has some grey spots now after previously being red. Not itchy though. I’m heavily confused on what’s happened to me.

  9. Hey fellas, this might seem strange, but what does your urethra look like inside when you open it? Mine has looked inflammed for almost two months.

Its mostly pinkish, but has some redness, one side has what looks like a vein, then I see a couple little red spots, where I believe herpes possibly entered, but honestly don’t know and doctors don’t either...

Can you post in as much details as possible on how yours looks, for comparison? Color, smooth, bumpy, spots or not, etc. There are almost no pics online the web either.

I had severe pain for awhile, but not during urination. Pain has gone but it still tingles? If that makes sense and it basically looks the same since the start.

A large portion of the population has had mono or will test positive for EBV. Also, most people infected with HSV-2 don't experience symptoms, so there may just be a correlation; I think it is statistically more likely for a person to have antibodies to both viruses and be asymptomatic.

Did the girl who potentially gave you herpes have a blood test that confirmed antibodies to HSV?

The girl I was with is convinced that she’s clean, and doesn’t want to test. She told me she has mono before. Also found out afterwards that she’s schitzophrenic and I read that can be link to hsv and mono, rarely...but she definitely is mental...and admits it

I saw in another post that you took acyclovir briefly so I assume you saw a doctor. Did the doctor diagnose you with herpes or give you any guidance on this?

FWIW, trying to diagnose yourself on the internet based on non-textbook symptoms is going to drive you crazy (it looks like it's already starting to). You might come across someone who says, "yes, I had these symptoms and they ended up being herpes" but that doesn't give you a diagnosis. Only a doctor and confirmatory testing can do that.

I saw a primary care doctor that didn’t think it was anything just irritation and “in my head”...it was not just mental. Then I saw a urologist who took a look in my urethra after I told him about the constant tingling/pain and he literally said “try acyclovir and see what happens” took it for 7 days and felt some relief, but then it all came back on day 8 after I stopped meds? Nobody has diagnosed anything, but I don’t see what else could be the cause at this point. Doesn’t add up.

Edited to add: I do not know the statistics on having a previous history of Mono and then being exposed to HSV and being asymptomatic. I had mono when I was a teenager, was exposed to HSV, and am asymptomatic.  So, if that was your question, then although I don't know the answer, I will say that is my experience. Mono history, no symptoms of HSV.

That’s what I was asking. History of mono then exposed to hsv and no symptoms, but still a carrier. Anyone else care to chime in?

  13. Could having mono in the past make you an asymptomatic hsv carrier because of antibodies built from a family strain? Basically not have any hsv symptoms because you have had mono before. I think this may have been the case for a girl who potentially gifted me h.
