  1. Hey! Just wanted to let you know, I had genital prodrome symptoms daily for the first 7-8 months after having my initial outbreak (with no second outbreak yet). it’s seem to gone away genitally for the most part now but traveled up to my lower abdomen and hip.
  2. @lil devy the contrast dye is an IV and I heard you’re right that it makes your pelvic area warm almost like you peed yourself and then you have to drink a lot of water after to flush it out of your system. I’ve never had an IV (not good with needles) and I’m scared I’m allergic to contrast dye but I’ve never had it so it’s all in my head lol. They don’t think it’s a hernia really but they want to rule it out because of where my pain is so we’ll see!
  3. @lil devy not yet. I really feel like it’s nerve pain. My gyno is ordering an MRI with contrast dye to rule out a hernia because of the location of my pain even though she doesn’t see or feel one. Very nervous because I’ve never had an MRI or contrast dye before!!
  4. @BonBon HSV1 can be genitally too, I got it after my boyfriend performed oral on me. It tends to be “less severe” than genital HSV2 because HSV1 favors the mouth but it’s been horrible nerve pain for me rather than frequent outbreaks. i really hope this all calms down eventually, it’s really impacting my life in every sense. and yes mine totally flares up way more when I’m stressed!!!
  5. @BonBon I’ve only had one outbreak internally (vaginally) that was 9 months ago and they swabbed it and it came back negative for HSV2 so I’m assuming it’s HSV1. i took valtrex when I had the sores and they went away quickly. but since then I’ve had the pain. I’m hoping to get a blood test for HSV1 in two weeks. But I heard blood tests can be unreliable. i haven’t had an outbreak since...doctor said visually it looks like herpes and I had flu-like symptoms the day before the outbreak, so I’m assuming it’s herpes too because I don’t know what else causes sores like that. im really hoping the pain goes away too! My body has felt like constant nerve pain since the outbreak.
  6. @BonBon my pain started in my vagina, felt like sharp pain, almost like a tear...burning, tingling, itchy....after 6 months the feelings spread to my lower abdomen/right hip. feels like random stabbing, pulled muscle, ramping, sometimes burning. It’s really weird. when I started having painful orgasms 4 months ago, everything felt fine until the moment of orgasm and then instead of pleasure it felt like a sharp shooting electrical current to my lower abdomen on the right side. ultrasound showed nothing
  7. I can relate to a lot of your story....I had my first genital outbreak after getting a trans vaginal ultrasound. I also have been in a committed relationship for the past 8 years. At first I totally blamed the ultrasound wand and thought they hadn’t cleaned it or something....I know how shocking it can be.. I guess the western blot test is the best way to know for certain via blood test if you are positive or negative. the shared laundry machine wouldn’t have done anything because the virus would die in the wash. im sorry you’re going through this. I know how much of a shock it can be!!!!
  8. No worries!! I know you didn’t mean it in a mean way at all (I used to say the same thing before I got HSV and now I’m slightly more aware of what I say) don’t worry about it!! yeah depending on the doctor some are really not into giving out antivirals unless someone has frequent outbreaks unfortunately. i deff got my genital herpes from my asymptomatic boyfriend performing oral on me though and we both didn’t know he had it at all!
  9. also wanted to add that if the doctor told him he has the strain that causes cold sores then that sounds like HSV1 which is typically oral sores but could be genital sores too. if he’s never had an outbreak then it’s hard to say where his is located. if he takes antivirals it will cut the transmission rate down a lot, both orally and genitally!!
  10. Hey just wanted to say that this is extremely common for people to not know they have herpes. up until I had my first outbreak I thought every time they were doing routine STI tests that herpes was included but I had no idea that it’s not included in a regular STI panel. i got genital herpes from my long term boyfriend performing oral on me and we both didn’t know he had oral herpes. He has never had a cold sore but most people are asymptomatic. this has made me learn so much more than I thought I knew about sexual health and our healthcare system. At least now you have knowledge on how to protect yourself to lessen the transmission rate! and also I just wanted to add, I know you didn’t mean this in a mean way at all but calling yourself or somebody “clean” is a little insulting for people who do have an STI because it insinuates that they are dirty. Just wanted to throw that out there even though I know you didn’t mean it that way!!!
  11. @YogaJ12 did your nerve pain ever go away? I’ve been dealing with this daily since my first and only outbreak 9 months ago
  12. @Alexis1991 @Songbird how are you guys doing with tingling/sensitivity? im 9 months in with no second outbreak but daily prodrome symptoms
  13. @unbreakable @gracie has your nerve pain/tingling gone down at all? ive had daily nerve pain since my first outbreak 9 months ago with no second outbreak....vagina has not felt the same since
  14. @Thisismeuk how have your nerve pains been lately? ive had daily genital tingling/burning since my first outbreak 9 months ago....and about 5 months ago the nerve pain traveled to my lower abdomen/right hip... no second outbreak yet....but the nerve pain is constant and daily...
  15. @Panickygirl21 @Kjlo82 @AE1994 Just checking in to see how everyone’s doing....seems like my nerve pain has spread to my right hip and lower abdomen....really hoping this dies down after a year!!
  16. @mr_hopp thank you!! I will ask my doctor about acyclovir!
  17. @My_dog_is_hungry ok so I’m not alone haha because it really seems like the majority of people have outbreaks externally!!
  18. @My_dog_is_hungry thank you for the reply. It really helps to know other people went through the same nerve issues and it eventually calmed down...I need any hope I can get!!
  19. @My_dog_is_hungry I hope that helps!! Yes stress caffeine peanut butter...lol recipe for HSV disaster
  20. @Confused12 thank you for responding! I took one today 2 hours after I ate and it was fine. Thanks again!
  21. Hello all! ever since I had my first outbreak 9 months ago I haven’t had another outbreak but I’ve had daily prodrome symptoms.... noticed my groin lymph nodes are inflamed/swollen on both sides....it’s been like this for months. I do not have a fever and am not nauseous at all....my periods have also been lighter and shorter since HSV... has this happened to anyone else? thinking of going on daily valtrex to see if it helps with the lymph node inflammation/pain but valtrex makes my face really dry and red and my heart race if I take it.... maybe I should try acyclovir instead?
  22. @Ellie88 thank you so much for taking the time to respond. i am really contemplating going on it because 9 months of painful electric orgasms and daily nerve pain is not fun..... I really hope that this solves itself for all of us eventually!! ❤️
  23. @BonBon yes you’re correct, amitriptlyne and nortryptiline are both antidepressants that are said to treat nerve pain as well. i have also noticed that my nerve pain is much more obvious when I am stressed out...I’m a high anxiety person to begin with. the nerve pain got worse at the start of covid in March. i have been to 3 doctors and 2 gynecologists....they seem to have little knowledge on HSV nerve pain and seem to think people only experience pain DURING outbreaks which isn’t the case for me. i have started pelvic floor therapy, and because of the location of my pain (vagina, groin, lower abdomen and right hip) she thinks possibly a hernia...but I know this is nerve pain from HSV, none of this things ever happened prior to my first outbreak. i have tried 3 sessions of acupuncture and found a LITTLE relief from that but it was temporary...maybe a day or two of relief and that could be because it lowered my stress level. although acupuncture is supposed to help nerve pain so I’m going to continue that. people seem to say “stress vitamin b complex with vitamin c and zinc” by Nature Made is good for nerves and I just started taking that about 3 days ago. fish oil is also supposed to be very good for inflammation, as well as ginger and turmeric. my acupuncturist recommended CBD gummies with ginger and turmeric in them...I’ll probably buy those next time I see her. i really really really want antidepressants/meds to be my last resort because I really don’t like antidepressants but I’m getting to my breaking point with the chronic daily pain....I’m sure you understand. i sometimes drink Lemon Balm tea because it’s supposed to be good for HSV. if anything, this HSV has made me evaluate my life and look at being healthier and managing my stress (started doing daily yoga). but it has taken a HUGE toll on my physical pain and sex life.
  24. @BonBon I know exactly how you feel...I keep praying this nerve pain will go away but 9 months of constant pain...it doesn’t feel like it’s going away. i just started vitamin b complex and I’ve been taking vitamin c for a while and will start fish oil again....I also might start nortryptiline which is supposed to help with post herptic neuralgia....i hate medications but I’m desperate for relief at this point. and I completely understand when you say you feel moody when you’re having a bad nerve pain day because that’s how I’ve been too....it can totally ruin my entire day..... I really hope we both find relief!!!
  25. @Ellie88 I might start taking nortryptiline which is very similar to amitiriptline....have you had any side effects to the med? I’m very sensitive to antidepressants
