  1. Hey guys, For the last month I have been dating this girl. I told her about herpes and all the statistics about transmission and she said she is ok with it all as long as we are being safe. We have been having sex but recently she has had some concern about giving oral sex and me transmitting the virus from my genitals to her mouth. I know the rate of transmission while taking antivirals (which I take) and not using a condom is 4% for sex, does that same number apply to oral sex? I have not been able to find anything on the internet about this, it's mostly about transmitting herpes from the person giving the oral sex, not the person receiving it. I'm not sure if I have HSV1 or HSV2 and plan on getting a blood test within a month to find out. I plan on sharing my herpes talk success story here once I get the time, very busy starting up my sophomore year at college right now.
  2. Hey everyone, I have a lot of 1g Valtrex pills and am going to start taking 500mg pills to lower my chances of transmission. My pills are scored down the middle. I was wondering if the pill is evenly distributed or would splitting them not be a good idea. Trying to save money. Thanks
  3. Hey guys, So I just found out I have HSV 1 and not 2 on my genitals which I heard is good. I've read that studies done by Valtrex show that if you use suppressive therapy and condoms there is only a 2% chance per year for a male to transmit the virus to a female. Is that for HSV 1 and 2 or just 2? I've heard that HSV 1 is a little more difficult to get on your genitals so I'm kind of hoping it is for future partners. If anyone has any numbers from studies to throw out there that would be great. I've also heard HSV 1 has less outbreaks on your genitals so it'd be cool if someone could verify that for me. This is the only site I really trust, there is some much random information on the internet about this stuff. I also take Lysine every day as well as other vitamins, eat healthy, and exercise so my immune system is pretty good to fight off future outbreaks. Was kind of nervous at first after years of Lyme disease that my immune system wouldn't be able to handle it but I've been so much healthier since my first outbreak that I'm actually feeling a lot better physically. I guess I gotta thank herpes for that haha.
  4. Hey so this is my first post to this site and I'm hoping to be on here a little more to. In January I was diagnosed with herpes but have not had a positive test yet because I showed up late during my outbreak and they couldn't get a good sample, but it was pretty obvious it was herpes. I've had 2 other outbreaks since then and am completely ok with having herpes, it doesn't bother me that much. I've been tested for everything else and am lucky to be clean. My outbreaks occur about a centimeter above me penis. I believe this is because I may have fingered a girl with herpes and went to the bathroom immediately after because we were a little too tired and drunk to go any farther. I don't believe I could've gotten it any other way. Now when viral shedding occurs without an outbreak, does it occur where the outbreak happens or is it anywhere in my genital area? I'm asking because there is a girl I want to date who is fully aware of my herpes and I want to know how important a condom would be to use. It wouldn't cover the area where my outbreaks are which is why I'm curious if it would be that much more important to use. Other than that we are both clean and she is on birth control so that's why I'm asking. Thanks for any and all responses
