  1. No problem @kiwiguy, glad you've shared your experience.
  2. For anyone newly diagnosed and new to this forum, this link takes you to an article that explains how the stigma around herpes got to be what it is in the U.S. https://ellacydawson.wordpress.com/2015/07/25/time-magazine-ruined-herpes-journalism-heres-how-to-fix-it/. The two years of my life spent living overseas where spent in Okinawa, South Korea and the Philippines. Herpes didn't seem to be a big deal at the time. (Nearly 30 years ago at this point.) Not sure if thats changed since.
  3. Hello @jg12345, I got herpes when I was 20, I just turned 49 last week. You are right about one thing, your world is turned up side down. But, that is for right now. Things are going to get better. Learn all you can about herpes. Read this blog http://supporttruthanddialog.com/. Read the informational blog on this site. Great information at both sources. Read the success stories in this forum. Herpes is not the end of life as you know it. I suggest you get to a doctor or clinic soon. If you have another outbreak get it swabbed so you can get it typed and know what you're dealing with. A blood test would be in order too. If you get one in the next week or so and its negative, get another one in 4 months. Takes that long for antibodies to be detectable. Others can explain it better than me. Hang in there, you're going to be fine. Trust me, after 29 years I know...
  4. As soon as my last comment posted inspiration struck and here is the link I was thinkin of. https://herpeslife.com/herpes-forum/discussion/comment/31746#Comment_31746 @kiwiguy was who I was thinking.
  5. There was a man from Australia who used to post here who had been taking an antiviral suppresivly for over 12 years straight. He reported no adverse effects. Unfortunately I cant recall his screen name at the moment. If I have the time later I will try to track him down and link up a thread he discusses it in.
  6. Hello @85chev, I would say you have HSV1 for sure. Its very possible the HSV2 result is a false positve. Anything below 3.5 has a 40% chance of being a false positive. If you want further clarification you can contact Westover Hieghts about a Western Blot. Contact info is above.
  7. Terri Warren kind of said as much. Swabs are better now than they used to be...back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth....
  8. At the time I still got blisters. Over time they became more like ulcers.
  9. Yes, I had 3 different outbreaks swabbed and they all came back negative. The third time was done within the first 24 hours of the start of the outbreak. I was told by the doctor following the third swab that 30% of cases will not test positive. This was recently confirmed by Terri Warren at Westover Heights. I finally got confirmation in October 2014 that I have HSV2 with an IgG blood test.
  10. @2Legit2Quit, perhaps we could coin the phrase "coitus mammorious"
  11. Check out this blog for more info on various remedies http://supporttruthanddialog.com/ antivirals are the most effective means I know of. Talk to your doctor about acyclovir, Valtrex and famvir. I always had good results with acyclovir. You can take them episodicly. Or you can take them suppresively. Episodicly is when you take them at the first sign of an outbreak. Suppresively you take a daily dose every day.
  12. Hello, I would say you're under no obligation either way you go. I never had any intention of telling my folks. Then, after I got home from the Marines, my mom found my bottle of acyclovir on top of my dresser. Being a nurse she knew how to look up drugs. And of course she had to say something about it. At the time I was in no mood to discuss it. 26 years later its never been mentioned again. If you think it will upset them I don't think you have to tell them.
  13. I apologise to you @2Legit2Quit for going overboard earlier. I let my emotion get the better of me. I'm as flawed a person as you'd ever want to meet (or not). I for one am done with the subject and won't speak of it again.
  14. Hahaha! That was the cutest and most naive thing I heard all day! Silly that big pharma isn't morally corrupt and capable of sghly recommend education on the topic. Please read up on the ex executive for Pfizer who turned into a whistle blower if you need evidence. Also feel free, to watch Dalls fight club or buyers club, based on the real story, where the FDA and big pharma KNEW a drug was killing HIV patients faster and they kept pushing and treating patients for it. I'm not sure your age, but will assume maybe young, due to the naivety about big pharma. I suggest you start w reading about the whistle blower below and then watch that movie and do some of your own research. @sanngrior , if you havent done research on herpes funding, , vaccines, studies, etc; I recommend you do. i really cant expect you to know any better. To each their own! You think what works for you and ill go off my extensive research on the topic and stick w that. Cheers! http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/07/07/pfizer-vice-president-blows-the-whistle-tells-the-truth-about-the-pharmaceutical-industry/ @2Legit2Quit, Please reread your post from earlier in the thread. Your tone in this thread comes across as very condescending. I was actually offended by this, and I'm not very easy to offend. "Hahaha! That was the cutest and most naive thing I heard all day!" "I can't really expect you to know any better." WTH? @sanngrior made some very valid points in both posts. I for one don't believe the big pharma issue is as cut and dried as you do. Yes, there are some rotten no good evil bastards in big pharma. You'll find them in any industry you care to look into. There is some great research going on. If an effective vaccine or cure is discovered it will find its way to the marketplace. Money will be made, that is ultimately what they are in business to do. You are more than welcome to message me again and tell me how immature I am being. As things stand right now you and I are never going to agree on this issue. Lets just let it stand right there. Please, be a little more tactful in your responses on this subject in the future. You do a great job here. I do appreciate your point of view.
  15. Wow...this must have been Dr. Rip Van Winkle.
  16. Simple fact of the matter is the world of medicine consders herpes nothing more than a nuisance condition. It doesn't cause cancer, sterility or other long term physical complications. The deaths it can cause are so rare its barely a blip on the radar. The viruses mentioned above are generally deadly or cause other physical long term conditions. HIV even became a hot political issue when it came to funding for research. There was a time when an HIV diagnosis was a death sentance. Now days its not. Hopefully whats learned from that research can be applied to HSV and other viruses. I have long since stopped obsessing over a cure after nearly 3 decades of having herpes. It is after all a nuisance. Its the stigma and general widespread ignorance about herpes thats the real problem.
  17. Ha...bet that dumbass is an asymptomatic carrier...
  18. The warts can be frozen off. Very simple procedure to get rid of them.
  19. #1....I too used acyclovir years ago. Never had an outbreak while using it. (I have hsv2) #2....Genital HSV1 does tend to be less active than HSV2. HSV1 seems to prefer the oral area more than the genital area. Vice versa for HSV2. #3....It is possible. Acyclovir can help prevent it from happening. Then again you may have no trouble at all. What is a trigger for one person is not a problem for the next. You'll never know until you actually try it.
  20. Hello @Thumper, Glad you found this site. It is one of best on the internet when it comes to herpes. Another one is at this link http://supporttruthanddialog.com/. It is written by @WCSDancer2010, who is the forum mom here. I believe you will find her blog very interesting. As a 29 year veteran of herpes myself I wish her blog would have been available decades ago. The article Using Herpes as your Wingman is a must read. Good luck in Israel next summer. They need all the help they can get. The current administration running the U.S. is no friend to them.
  21. Good article, thanks for the link. Todays 20 somethings are lucky to have the internet as a resource. I first got on the internet 20 years ago at the age of 29. You just never talked about herpes back then. The internet makes it easy to dip your toe in the water anonymously. Thats a good way to start getting the support you need. Made some very good friends over the years. The stigma is being chipped away a little bit at a time. Yourself, Ella Dawson, Sweet Cicily, Adrial and others are going public and making a stand against stigma.
  22. Yes, she had it before we met. We met in a herpes chat room on AOL 19 years ago. We found out we lived in the same state and everything followed from there. The beginning of your journey with herpes is the worst part. I know it was for me. The best thing you have done so far is come to this site and reach out. I didn't reach out for nearly 10 years after I got it, that was the wrong thing to do. The sooner you confront it the better you will be. Read the success stories. You will learn that herpes is really just a nuisance. The stigma is really overblown. Read Using Herpes as your Wingman in the support truth and dialog blog. I believe that to be the single most important article there. It's a perspective I think everyone should have going forward with herpes.
  23. I coming up on 29 years with herpes. I've not taken anything for it in 20 years. My wife also has it so there is really no need for antivirals. I don't get very many outbreaks anymore. In time you will find that it settles down. Glad you found this site. Lots of great info. Lots of great support. Check out @WCSDancer2010's blog http://supporttruthanddialog.com . She has alot of great tips on there about how to deal with the outbreaks.
