  1. Hi, I'm on Valtrex and have been for a year. I've not infected any partner I've been with this entire time. They all know I have it and am on medication. I've had with both protection and not protection. None of them have ever had any sign of infection. They and I have both done both penetration and oral sex. I have learned to listen to my body closely and do not have any relations when I feel I may be either feeling sick or tired. They all know I would never risk them. Hope this helps.
  2. I have both oral and GHSV1. I was diagnosed a year ago, and have been on suppressive therapy since then. My spouse and I do not use protection and he has never shown signs of transmission from me, as I got it from him (oral sex during cold sore) or my Dominant. I have been with both, and neither have gotten it from me. I do check each time for any possible sores on myself, and I watch for symptoms of an outbreak (tired a lot, fevers, etc.) but it's hard, as I'm in perimenopause too.
  3. I like that idea and I'll print off a few, Dancer, but most I talk to are via internet. I did save the links in case I need to try to teach again. Of course, still can't make them click and learn anything.
  4. Thanks, ihaveittoo. I'll have to remember that one. LOL And yes, it's scary, whitedaisies. I am so glad my OB/GYN knows about what is what. It is seemingly common around here. Makes me wonder how common.
  5. I had to laugh a bit, but then I realized that maybe there needs to be even a week long class about STDs in school. I had someone approach me, as I'm in an alternate lifestyle, and not only called me a "whore" but inferred I was stupid. They asked if I had anything, and I'm always 100% honest, and told them yes, I had Type 1 genital Herpes. They came back with the above and stated that Herpes Type 1 can only be oral, as Type 2 can only be genital. I tried to educate them, but you can't educate those that don't want to learn. I take every day as a chance to learn something new, find that 1 fact that I haven't learned and find all I can about it. Heck, even got a book called Do Penguins Have Knees for a birthday gag and told the person I loved it and have read it twice, as it has lots of interesting things in it. (BTW, yes, they do, but their lower leg is longer than their thigh, so it is higher than you would expect and under their feathers.) I just have to think that sometimes, there are things that kids need to learn, that they don't get the chance to do so, and it makes me sad to say I try to do what I can, but even 1 can't do the work of lots of people.
  6. My first one came at the same time as my ovulation. My Dr. recommended me to start birth control. The only other OB I've had is when I had surgery this last month. I don't get my cycle, and having the lack of hormone fluctuation may be helping me not have OB's. It was one option my OB/GYN recommended. You can always start one then stop if it doesn't help, and there's several different options to try with it. Pills, shots, patches, etc. Talk with your Dr. They are great at understanding, at least the ones near me are.
  7. I haven't had an issue with generic Valtrex. I've been on a daily 500 mg dose since I got off the first 2 week high dose of 2 grams. I did have to take a week of 2 grams recently due to an oral outbreak, but didn't have issues then either (the ones I had were from the surgery I had done). I do know that if you check with an OB/GYN, they can also possibly get you the discount card. I know mine has them on the counter at the front check in, in case anyone needs help with prescriptions.
  8. The group of friends I am around have a get together 2 times a year and make sure that everyone is reminded of things like this. They remind those new to the group that when having a blood panel that they need to make sure that the Dr knows to test for any and all sexually transmitted diseases. They say "get the regular blood panels for health, but remind them to test for Herpes and STDs." It is simple when you get your exam for say cholesterol to just have them add the others. Not only do you know you are safe or what you have, but you can take and be sure you let others you are with know. And the fact that friends have different reactions? Well, it all depends on how some are raised. I've had everything from "Can I catch that from you by working or going to the restroom after you?" to "Oh hun, if you need a shift covered cause you don't feel good, let me know." People will always react with their guts and mouth before brain.
  9. They would love to swab, but since I do take a daily Valtrex of 500mg, they said the results would be not 100%. I'm just happy that they have cleared up. Swallowing and eating were the worst. The largest 2 were on the median between my lip and inner mouth on the inside of my lip.
  10. Actually, they healed within the last 5 days due to the Valtrex. The Dr did look at them the next day, and they are identical to the ones I get in my genital area. Same result on the test. They weren't true Canker sores, but the HSV1. I don't get cold sores or cankers usually, but since I was physically worn from the surgery, I did get them. And since my partner and I often have both vaginal and oral sex in the same session, we often have transferred stuff between us. He is a carrier, and does not get sores in any form. But I think the fact that the Valtrex caused the sores in my mouth to heal in 5 days, or be mostly healed (I still have 1 spot that is slightly tender), it shows they were a transfer from by genital area. Yes, my partner knows, and is willing to still be with me and support me. Luckily, we both have been too busy to do anything, along with me needing healing time before we do.
  11. I had my first outbreak of genital herpes type 1 in June '14, but due to a very needed surgery (my gall bladder had to come out), I had my second outbreak. This one was oral herpes type 1. So, I just guess I wanted to have someone listen to me complain. No one understands that when you have an outbreak, you are tired, not just sleepy, but physically exhausted. Topping the outbreak was the surgery. I guess when they got in there, I was full of infection, so had to take not only a high dose of Valtrex but high doses of pain killers and antibiotics. I also have no appetite because I'm just tired, and the outbreak in my mouth includes the back of my mouth/upper throat. Luckily I have the most awesome friend who is an OB/GYN, and called in to the pharmacy on her off time to give me a refill of the high dose of Valtrex. (and as a joke, she gave me 98 refills for the next year) Now, to convince my family and friends that I really just need sleep and healing from everything I've gone through in a week. The strange thing, on days I work (yes, cleared for light duty which includes both my jobs, of which at the most I lift is 10 lbs.) I am not tired. I'm actually wired and hyper, but 5 hours of work is a limit for me. I just come home, climb in bed, and crash. So, LOL, it took over 6 months and a surgery to cause my second outbreak, and it is in a completely different location, but maybe I can handle this. Just gotta keep in mind I can and will get through them, I have a support system in place, and I am strong enough to fight this in any form. Luckily they are both type 1 and easy to get rid of. Hugs to all those out there fighting with me.
