  1. Hey all! It's been some time since I've been on here but I've been doing great after my HSV2 diagnosis. haha I'm on here once again because my boyfriend and I have opened up the "no-condom" discussion. When I was diagnosed, the doctor told me that suppressive therapy wasn't recommended since I hadn't experienced an outbreak. After 2 years, I still haven't had an outbreak and I was wondering if any of you are in the same situation or if you still take medication regardless. I discussed this with my boyfriend but he said he would be open to ditching the condoms once we're married and if we can lessen the risk of transmission. I don't know if my own doctor misinformed me or not. Any suggestions?
  2. Hi! It's been a while since I got on here to vent/ask any questions but I'm doing much, much, better. I'm still learning about herpes but there's till a lot I need to learn. When I think I got HSV, I recall having abnormal discharge (which is what caused me to go to the doctor). I didn't have any other symptoms other than feeling like I had a cold and a tingly lip. I've never had an outbreak so I don't really know where I have HSV2. For all I know, I can have it on both my genitals and my mouth. But I just want to ask those who know what an oral outbreak feels like. For me, it feels itchy around my lips sort of like if you ate hot peppers and it burned your lip a bit. Is that what a "pre-outbreak" feels like? I just want to have an idea where I have it. Thank you!
  3. I was diagnosed in late February and I was devastated too. I still think about it, its easier, but I still get a bit paranoid. If you need anyone to talk to, go ahead and message me :)
  4. @Hguy2016 I got the HerpeSelect IgG specific type. Here are my values. HSV1IgG Index-SO (H)1.81 HSV2IgG Index-SO (H) >=6.00 HSV1 IgG Interp-SO *SEE NOTE HSV2 IgG Interp-SO *SEE NOTE HSV1/2IgM Ind-SO (H) 0.97 HSV1/2 IgM IFA-SO NEGATIVE HSV1/2 IgM Interp-SO *SEE NOTE:
  5. Quick question. I am diagnosed with HSV 2 but I've never had an outbreak. I remember once I got what I thought was a mild case of angular cheilitis but I remember I was just itchy so I scratched it and it kinda broke the skin. It might've been prodromal symptoms because I felt tingling (the kinda tingling you feel when you eat an orange and the peel rubs on your lips and it leaves that numbing sensation). It was before I was diagnosed so I've never seen blisters, canker sores, or lesions. I went on a date with a guy and I disclosed on the first date that I had HSV 2 (but I don't know where). We have only kissed and now he's having flu-like symptoms and I'm worried I might've given him HSV. I really hate not being able to live my life normally but I'm learning and doing my best to be responsible.
  6. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. The guy that gave me heroes knew he had it but didn't tell me and then proceeded to block me after I told him my diagnosis. I don't even know what to say, but I hope we can get through this together.
  7. @adrial thank you for clarifying. It was nice to think I didn't have it. Even if it was just for the weekend.
  8. So I was on here about a month ago when I was first diagnosed. I was so scared, still am, but I'm more confused than ever. When I was diagnosed, I found out through an IgG test where my results were greater than 6. This past weekend I thought I was having my first outbreak ever so I drove to planned parenthood. When I got there, the doctor saw me and was a little baffled that I knew I had herpes but wasn't sure if I was having an outbreak or not. When she checked, she said, "This doesn't look like herpes at all. How did you get diagnosed?" I told her I went in for a routine STD testing and they did blood work but how I've never had an outbreak. She then said "I highly doubt you have herpes." I told her about my results and she said "Those tests are not reliable because they detect antibodies. That means that somewhere along your life, you were exposed to herpes but your body fought it off. You have antibodies, not herpes." She told me that I should worry once I have an outbreak. Needless to say, she still took a swab of my little wannabe-outbreak to give me a peace of mind. As you can imagine, I'm SO CONFUSED. Can anyone explain? I just gotta know if I have herpes or not.
  9. @adrial thank you for replying! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels/felt this way. Yeah, I was put on antibiotics as a precaution to other STDS. I Was tested the same day they gave me the antiobiotifs. "Just in case".
  10. @Hguy2016 @Bambina3 I have HSV 2.
  11. I still feel confused. I have a lot to learn. A lot to experience living with this. There's this guy I had sex with. The same one who I think infected me. He was one of the few phone calls I made to let them know about the issue and have themselves get tested. But he denied his name, he said I had the wrong number, and blocked me on FB. I remember feeling "off" after having sex with him. I remember texting him asking him when he had gotten tested and he avoided the question. I remember telling him a couple of days later after having sex that I had a fever ans an itchy lip but he asked me questions asking for details but brushing it off I the end....and now here I am months later trying to cope. I guess I just feel upset at the fact that here I was trying to be smart and use protection but that didn't stop me from getting infected. I had to face my previous partners with tears in my eyes and let them know that I was sorry if I infected them while he didn't even have the courage to tell me "I THINK I'm clean". No. He just acted childish and ran away from the question. I'm having such a hard time dealing with my results. Like I usually get a sore inner lip with my braces and now I can't help but to think Im having an outbreak but. I'm at work....I wanna drop everything and go to the doctor but I can't so I have to wait it out. Two nights ago I had horrible body aches that resulted in a sore throat and I started crying in the middle of the night because I feared I had an outbreak. I fear finding someone and that sharing a simple kiss can infect them. I can't carry that burden with me. But at the moment I feel overwhelmed. I don't know what a sign of an outbreak is like so I don't know what to expect.
  12. Hi! So I was diagnosed with herpes about a week and a half ago and I feel that I'm asymptomatic but now I'm not even sure. I have these horrible body aches, fever, headaches, and my throat it kinda sore. It might be my body trying to fight off a cold but I'm so scared. I've never had an outbreak so I don't know what to expect. After the doctor put me on antibiotics I did develop a yeast infection that I'm currently taking care of but like I said, I have no idea and I'm scared.
  13. I figured, thank you for clarifying those values for me!
  14. @WCSDancer2010, Thank you so much for responding! From what I know, I've never had an OB. Everything seemed fine, that is why it came as such a shock to me. I got the test done as a part of my regular STD testing. Apparently, its the first time that I get tested for herpes, I didn't know that you had to ask for it. It looks like I had the Type Specific IgG (HerpeSelect) and ELISA SO. Here are my results, HSV1IgG Index-SO (H)1.81 HSV2IgG Index-SO (H) >=6.00 HSV1 IgG Interp-SO *SEE NOTE HSV2 IgG Interp-SO *SEE NOTE HSV1/2IgM Ind-SO (H) 0.97 HSV1/2 IgM IFA-SO NEGATIVE HSV1/2 IgM Interp-SO *SEE NOTE Sorry for all that info! I went to the doctor to have him go over it with me, but the numerical values still confuse me a bit. But if it turns out that I have it, like you said, there's nothing more to do than get educated and be careful. Thank you so much!
