  1. Hello Aries, I too had a vaginal OB but on the outter lip area. I was certain it could have been hsv2 but doc confirmed it was hsv1. Which I was confused about because I know they say hsv1 is more on the oral area which I've never experienced cold sores. Are you taking any meds for the OB?
  2. Hello, Anyone who is familiar with valtrex, please provide me with some guidance. Is valtrex ok to take on a long term basis? I took Valtrex for the 10 days when I had my first initial OB. After that I was put on valtrex when I was pregnant to prevent any OB's. I recently had my baby 2 weeks ago and haven't taken valtrex since before giving birth. But I do want to get back on it for the protection of my baby and other kiddos. What do you all recommend.
  3. So my doctor has placed me on Valtrex once a day for who knows how long....this is my second OB in almost a yes and I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant. I hate taking pills especially big pills and Valtrex is not very small haha...he says I can cut them in pieces or crush...has anyone completely crushed the pills and taken them with pudding or something?
  4. Hey guys, Ok so appears I'm experiencing my second OB...let me recap real quick. I found out I had GHSV1 last year in June when I initially had the worst OB...lasted for about 2 weeks I believe. Ever since no issues. No medicine. All has been good. As I mentioned looks like I'm having an OB for the second time and typically how long does it last before it goes away? I started noticing Saturday. I'm not in any pain or discomfort. Medicine is not necessarily required right? Any topical ointments that can help out?
  5. Hello mommies! I am currently 5 mths pregnant.. And it appears like I may be having a tiny outbreak for the second time since I found out I had HSV1...the first time I had an OB it was horrible!! My doctor initially thought I had a staph infection but then got tested and turned out it was HSV1 but not in the mouth area for me it's was the genital area. And that was back in June last year...anyways I do not take valtrex because I don't ever really breakout. And I'm assuming I did now because of the pregnancy. So since I have what appears to be a tiny OB should I let it pass on it's own or maybe apply some ointment to help. Please provide your suggestions. Thanks!
  6. Oh I see. It's good to hear positive stories. It does help give me a peace of mind. I'll talk to my doctor about all this as well once I see him. As I mentioned I haven't had any outbreak since my initial one early this year when I found out I had H. And I hope it stays that way haha. But I've heard that for some women pregnancy can cause outbreaks. So let's hope that's not my case because I hate taking those huge horse pills haha. I took them for ten days when I had my initial outbreak and ten days felt like an eternity lol. For now I'll take it one day at a time. Thank you so soooo much for giving me positive information!!!
  7. Hello MMissouri! Thank you for responding! Just like you stated I did hear that the doctor may put someone on antiviral at the end of pregnancy to avoid any complications. In my case I'll be having a c section. Had one with my first two and I'm sure he'll do a repeat c section for my third. So I guess the only risk of H while being pregnant is if you deliver vaginally right? I was just concerned if it would affect the baby's health or not. Thank you once again! It is truly comforting to know your pregnancies went perfect!
  8. Hey ladies! I just found out I'm pregnant...not sure how far along yet and I won't see my doctor until jan 10. I'm not sure if I'm at risk being pregnant and also having hsv1.i found out early this year and haven't had any other outbreaks since my initial one. I don't take meds for the H. I can say H hasn't been a problem for me. And I'm truly thankful for that. I would love if any of you could share your experience if ever got pregnant while having H and how your pregnancy went. Thank you!!!' God bless you all!
  9. Hello all! Haven't been on here in quite a while. But I do have a few questions especially for those who have had had this virus for years. 1. As far as I know this virus is not serious or dangerous...correct? 2. Is it true this virus affects our brain? I read certain things online and it's kinds scary. 3. What should I know besides herpes besides that it's a skin condition. 4. Is it recommended to take meds? I only took meds for 10 days when I had my first OB which was back in April. Since I have not had any nor continued to take meds. Thanks!
  10. Who else agrees herpes is blown out of proportion? And is not a life threatning virus. I've accepted H as I've educated myself and just like everyone says it's nothing but a skin condition. Somewhat similar to psoriasis except of course can be transmitted. When I found out I had H I was depressed and had so many mixed emotions and so much anxiety running through my body because I knew nothing about this virus, I only knew the bad things people said about H. I then started to educate myself on it. I came across an article that a doctor wrote and he called H as a joke std because it's not life threatening and simply an annoying skin condition. For whoever is struggling to accept H, just know that it WILL get better and know this doesn't change who you are. You ARE WORTHY.
  11. I think you should be familiar with your OB's now right? Are you experiencing somehing different this time?
  12. Hmmm I'm not to sure about that. I've never experienced hemorrhoids. Have you googled? But maybe Google isn't a good thing lol. I always Google things and i freak myself out.
  13. Thank you! I figured it was just still a bit sensitive. The razor cut/burn healed over night but I did notice that when I shave it is very sensitive. I'll definitely try the Epsom salt baths. I wouldn't mind relaxing in the bathtub with some wine :)
  14. Hello girls! I figured this would be more of an appropriate question for women. I've mentioned in a previous post I have HSV1 genital. Had my first outbreak memorial weekend so earlier this month. My doctor first had said it was not H and said it was a staph infection and later confirmed it was H based on the swab culture. My OB was on the side of the labia. Nothing anywhere else. Never got any burning when urinating or other symptoms they say you would experience when you are about to experience the first OB. Anyways with that said after the first OB is it normal for the area that got affected to remain sensitive for a few weeks? Reason why I am asking is because when I shave my skin gets like a razor cut/burn. I know it's not another OB because it's not there before I shave. It goes away by the next day. So now I'm thinking its best not to shave. Or wait it out a few weeks. What do you all think? I welcome all opinions! Thank you all lovely ladies!
  15. Hello Damnhim, I have HSV1 genital as well. Well I'm assuming it's genital since that's where I had the oubltbreak. I'm fairly new to this as well. And I asked the same question. I never ever get cold sores. And the person that answered me stated that if I have HSV1 in my genital then I don't have it orally. My concern was my kids.
  16. Thanks for the info MMissouri! If I do plan to have another kid it won't be until years later. Haha I can barely handle my two kiddos right now. They are little balls full of energy! Yes as questions come up I will ask you! Thank you for answering what I've asked so far. Yes I heard my immune system can take a bit to get a handle on the virus. I believe I read on this site that it can take up to 6 months.
  17. Thank you Peggy! The more friends the better!
  18. I couldn't agree more! The more facts we know the easier it is! Im just trying get info. To better educate myself. And it does help to know other people's experiences. I need to get familiar with the signs to look for in case there is another outbreak coming up. I want to have one last baby one day and I think it's helpful you sharing your story with me. From what I understand is that you can pass this to your unborn child at the time of birth if the baby is being born vaginally? Is that right? My children were delivered by C-section. As days go by questions come up for me so I'm extremely thankful to have found this website.
  19. Wow! I love hearing positive stories. That is what we need more of. So many negative things out there about this virus and this is why people get freaked out. I know when I found out I saw a bunch of scary things and read scary things online and that's what triggered my anxiety and stress and then depression was setting in. In reality it's just a skin condition. I read an article from a doctor the other day about herpes and he stated that he considers herpes the joke of std's because he doesn't consider herpes even being an std because it doesn't harm you. He says it's simply a skin condition that can be annoying. How long ago did you find out about having HSV? Do you have outbreaks often? What do you find that triggers your outbreaks? Do you prefer to take meds? Or what other remedies do you use? I took the Valtrex for ten days twice a day and I pray I never have another outbreak. But only time will tell. I hate taking pills so I rather just take valtrex when I really need it. My outbreak didn't start as an outbreak. Mine started with a small vaginal cut shaving and then I started swelling and getting red then I had sores with clear fluid. This was on the side of my vagina. When I went to the doctor to have him check it out he immediately said nope this isn't herpes and said it was a staph infection and he looked inside too and said it all looked healthy. He explained with herpes you can get sores inside the vaginal opening and burning when urinating, itching. I explained I didn't have any of those symptoms. doctor then gave me antibiotics and an ointment and took a swab from a sore. All the antibiotics he gave and ointment I had to apply took this "infection" away. I went back a week later for a follow up and he examined the area and said it looked great then after he confirmed my swab came back positive for HSV1 and negative for HSV2. I was in shock! Then at that point he still started me on valtrex. So that's my story. I still have some learning to do and I'm thankful to meet others who can help out with any questions.
  20. Thank you MMissouri!!! You have to try and have a positive attitude towards this because you can't let the anxiety and depression take control. I have kids who rely on me and they need me so I had to put a stop to the dark hole I was sinkin in to. We can't allow a virus that is not a big deal to steal our joy in life. I greatly appreciate your input. I'm glad to know since this is genital HSV1 I can't transmit it to my children. My children were my main concern. I'm assuming if I could have gotten it orally as well it would have showed up by now right? I've been with my boyfriend for a while and I never have outbreaks. And what do you mean you haven't been typed? I appreciate all your info!
  21. Hi all! How's everyone? Ok so long story short I found out I have HSV type 1 about 2 weeks ago and I was devastated and anxious everyday and even felt so depressed but I had to snap myself out of that dark hole ASAP! I quickly started to educate myself as much as I could and turned all my negative thoughts into positive. Just like Adrial the administrator said this is not a life threatening virus nor will it affect your health. I had to remember that there are people out there who are actually fighting life threatening battles and I'm here complaining about a rash. So I quickly put a stop to my negative thinking. I still struggle at times but I'm sure with time I will become more adjusted to this virus. Let's all be a support system for each other! So with that said there are a few questions I have. And oh I forgot to mention that I do believe I have HSV type 1 genital. Because that's where I had an outbreak. My doctor just confirmed I was positive for type 1 and negative for type 2. In addition to this I never get cold sores on my mouth. Questions 1) if I have a boyfriend who has HSV type 1 oral and I have HSV type 1 genital...if we have unprotected sex can he catch it genitally? And also vice versa can I catch it orally? 2) If I have HSV1 genital can I transmit it to my children by kissing them on the cheek? 3) ladies! If you have HSV1 genital, please let me know your experiences. As far as symptoms, outbreaks per year...outbreaks with periods...I know our bodies are all different but I just want to get your input on this. 4) do you only take meds with outbreaks or do you prefer to take the meds everyday? Aah I had so many questions and now I can't remember them all haha. Thanks in advance.
  22. Hey guys! New here as well! I'd like buddies to talk to! Looking for support and would like to give support as well if anyone needs it.
