  1. So sorry that this took me so long to respond to- I definitely didn't mean that you made a joke! I just mean that any joke that I personally hear about herpes is triggering and I do my best to mask it and not react. The correlation that I was trying to make is that maybe the comment in question had a similar effect, though Hiking Girl is right, it may be something else entirely. Did you ever figure things out?
  2. For instance, I had a bump appear yesterday. Tonight I checked on it and it popped. Like a pimple. It was a pimple. Herpes WILL have you flustered out of your mind. I feel crazy.
  3. It could be. I personally feel instant shame whenever herpes is brought up in conversation or joked about. I would do what's best for any "oops" moment in a relationship, herpes related or not, and talk to him about it openly. "This is what I meant by my comment. This is what I fear you may have thought about it, and I'm sorry if that's true. I never meant to hurt you, please let me know your thoughts so that I can be more cognizant in the future."
  4. I had assumed until this post that mucus membrane was the way to transmit. However, I have had an incredibly itchy rash with little dots on my hand and arm and face at the same time as an outbreak, and it went away as I began valtrex. I sort of assumed it was shingles? I would probably go to the doctor for this one.
  5. I was coming here to post an incredibly similar post. I contracted hsv-1 when I was 18 from my high school boyfriend (also a coldsore) and had a terrible initial outbreak to follow. My lymph nodes were so swollen I couldn't wear jeans for the way they pressed. My next outbreak was accompanied by a head cold and rash that I was convinced was shingles, but no doctor would diagnose, and that was when I was 22. I'm now 26 and have had no outbreaks that I am aware of. It has been so long, however, that I am CONVINCED that every tingle or itch is an outbreak or shedding. I don't even know what I should truly be looking for because of never having a mild outbreak (that I know of). But herpes will mess with your head like that. Every partner told has wanted to be with me anyway. None of them knew a thing about it beside the obvious stigma attached, but saw past it once I laid down facts. I have never transmitted to any partners. Somebody tell us what to look for in our outbreaks lol I hope I was helpful, lilyluv.
