  1. I forgot to say that my ex-partner and I didn't do anything oral-except kissing.
  2. I know that this is a little late, but I just read this post. Possibly. Has your new guy been tested for HSV1? This could also be some sort of food/chemical allergy or oral thrush or even a vitamin deficiency. I had a chemical injury and used to get burning tongue with everything I ate-it went away when I changed my diet and started taking B-12. I still get it if I use certain products. I am not a medical professional, this is just my experience. Did he get checked out by doctor? Hope things are better now for you both.
  3. A while back, I was in a relationship and I had an STD panel done including and the results showed positive for HSV-2 (IgG). I've never had any lesions-but may have had some sub-clinical symptoms. My partner was also tested(IgG) and he didn't have it. I went to see an infectious disease specialist, and she said that given my history that my body was handling it O.K. and not to worry-even about viral shedding. She did not feel medication was needed at that time, but she did tell me to take precautions. I did get some acyclovir just in case. After the relationship was over, I went in for another STD panel and tested positive for HSV-1, again IgG. I'm assuming this is oral. I spoke to my ex-partner a few days ago(he said he didn't know about the HSV-1) and he got tested, but his results were negative. I'm not sure what's going on, since I was not kissing anybody else when I was with him and due to health reasons I have not been with anybody else. I have had some kisses on the cheek from other people when I was with him but I don't think any of them had an active OB. I don't share drinks or make up with people. I'm wondering if I might have gotten this from the communion cup at church, but I don't sip-I dip. I also think that would be really rare. So I'm not sure what is going on. Any ideas? I'm now wondering if one of the tests might have been a false positive or in his case a false negative? All I know is that I didn't have it before we started dating. Not blaming-just curious. I have had two possible OB's of HSV-1, but looking back I'm not sure. I did take the acyclovir and it helped in both cases. My doctors don't think I should be on any suppressive medication at this time. I am also going to start dating someone, so I'm wondering if it is O.K. to kiss them on the lips and possibily deep kissing if I do not have an active OB of HSV-1 (again- assuming oral)? Hope this post isn't too long. Thanks for any ideas/support.
  4. -oops, forgot to add that I was also concerned about a genital outbreak as well. Again, thanks for the support.
  5. @Trying2Accept, thanks for your comments and good thoughts. I was worried about having an oral outbreak and that my dentist would have to postpone any surgery, luckily that turned out not to be the case. I might try the olive leaf-and if necessary, extra lysine-I guess it's all about balance. Thanks again.
  6. @RegularGuy, thanks. I have been taking them, turns out tooth problem was different than was originally thought-which in this case is a good thing. I have read that gelatin is high in arginine-that's why I was concerned.
  7. I would also like to have a buddy. I live in the New England area. I found out last year that I have HSV2 and recently been diagnosed with HSV-1. It's been quite a shock, especially that the 1 might be oral-would really appreciate talking to someone, have a lot of questions/emotions. Am very supportive :). Don't mind if buddy is male or female.
  8. p.s. Thanks for any comments or advice-just also wondering what people have done in this particular situation-when you have to take something for medical reasons but might cause an outbreak. I'm still learning about all this, so I hope I haven't offended.
  9. Hi, I am suffering from a toothache and my dentist prescribed antibiotics-amoxicillin. The ones she prescribed come in a capsule with gelatin in it. I have to take it, but am a bit nervous about doing so, because I thought (through some research) that gelatin was one of the foods to avoid. I've been told it's a small amount, and my dentist did prescribe an alternative form(liquid) of the medication. I did contact my PCP and dentist and they thought it should be O.K. (I have HSV1 and HSV2-but have been mostly outbreak free-although I may have had one or some subclinical symptoms. I'm not having an outbreak right now.) I guess I'm wondering if I take the amoxicillin would the gelatin in the capsule cause an OB-has anybody any experience with this sort of thing or know if gelatin capsules can cause an outbreak? Or does it have to be a huge amount of gelatin? I take a 1000mg lysine supplement as well as vitamin C and a multi-no gelatin. Hope this is not too anxious. I would like to take it because I think it would be the most effective.
  10. p.s. I did disclose to my then partner about the HSV-2-which is why he got tested
  11. Hi, First post here. Not sure where this should go. A while back, I was in a relationship and I had an STD panel done including and the results showed postive for HSV-2 (IgG). I've never had any lesions-but may have had some subclinical symptoms. After the relationship was over, I went in for another STD panel and tested postive for HSV-1, again IgG. (Draw your own conclusions.) I'm assuming it's oral, based on research and during the relationship I had a cold and the doctor saw erythema in my throat. I have not had an official outbreak/lesions yet, although there was one time that I went to the emergency room for a cold/sinus and something on my inside of lip which they weren't sure what it was, but I was told to take the acyclovir just in case. After taking it, I felt much better. I did go to see the infectious disease specialists again and at this time, they felt that I should not be on suppressive medication. Having both is a very big deal to me because I already have a chronic illness, so am scared of having outbreaks and passing the HSV virus on to loved ones/or to a new site on myself even without an outbreak because it is so contagious. I feel like my dating/love life is over-and I just got back into it. I am afraid to kiss someone (even without an outbreak, because I don't want to pass anything on) and that is a huge part of dating. I feel dirty, and that no one would want me because I have both HSV1 and 2. I am worried about disclosure (especially about HSV-1), because I am a very private person, but as I said, I don't want to pass anything on. Any suggestions for this? Anyone have suggestions/tips about dealing/daily living(especially housecleaning)/dating with both HSV-1 and HSV-2? I have done research into some basic precautions, but would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
