Western Blot Results vs IGG ELISA Confusion
Needhelp19 posted a topic in General herpes discussionI took the IGG test for HSV1 and 2 2 weeks after I believed I was exposed to HSV1. The results came back negative for HSV2 but positive for HSV1 with an index value of 3.87. Not wanting to believe the results I took the Western Blot 6 weeks later. The results for HSV1 and 2 came back negative. My doctor insisted that the infection had to be old since it showed up so quickly on the IGG but if it was already an established infection why didn’t it show up on the Western Blot? It’s been 6 months now and I have not experienced an type of outbreak. Should I assume that I don’t have herpes or should I take the Western Blot again since I didn’t wait 3-6 months to take it the first time?
Western blot confirmation test advice
mtp21 posted a topic in Herpes question(s)I received a titer for the IGG test of 1.2 for HSV2 a couple weeks ago. My last sexual encounter was 6 weeks prior to the test however chance of exposure then and during any other encounter before then are very low. (The man I was having sex with for the past year and a half came back clean and the other four sexual encounters I’ve had since then have all been with protection) I also already have hsv 1 and have for over fifteen years (since I was a toddler). What are the odds that the western blot test I ordered for confirmation will indicate the IGG was a false positive if anyone has an comments they can offer or examples of their experience with the western blot and false positives?
Is the Western Blot legit?
LookingH posted a topic in General herpes discussionNeed everyone’s opinion: So here’s my story - i was diagnosed with hsv2 through routine bloodwork in 12/2018 with an igg of 1.79. I went on to get another igg drawn several weeks later where the igg was 1.36. (Last time I tested negative for hsv2 was 9/2015 by the way.) My gyno insisted I have hsv2, but with no symptoms and my partners being negative I was not convinced. Well, I just received my WB results this week and I am negative for Hsv1 & Hsv2. I went back to my gyno so she could see/review the results and she is STILL insisting I have hsv2 and she also stated she has no clue what this WB test from the U of W is? I’m really sad because her response is making me second guess my results and honestly makes me look a little crazy in her eyes. I have asked Terri Warren/Westover Heights, whom I got the WB with, for a letter stating that this result is legimate but she hasn’t returned my email in about 5 days so this is also making me extremely nervous and confused. Not many doctors seem to believe this test is real? Or they don’t know about it? Why? I have an appointment with a dermatologist and ID doctor coming up soon so hopefully I can get more answers, but I want to know everyone else’s opinion on here? I’m so confused.
