Hsv1 and hsv2 on genitals

Is it possible to have hsv1 and hsv2 on your genitals at the same time?

It is possible to have both genitally, but are you asking about just getting both viruses genitally, or having actual outbreaks of both at the same time (which I really don't know).

It's technically possible, but more than likely a genital outbreak would be HSV-2, even if you do carry both strains of the virus. Why do you ask? Are you having a genital outbreak now? Have you gotten tested and come out positive for both?

So as a follow up, can you contract HSV2 from your partner if you have HSV1 genitally? I looked for this answer in the forums because I believe it was discussed before but couldn't find it.
