Monogamy, no cheating, but herpes test says HSV-2?

Hi in November of 2020 I found out I have herpes 2. I took a test in 2017 and I was positive for herpes1 but negative for 2. I have been in a monogamous relationship with my boyfriend for 6 years. I never once have cheated. He has herpes one and is negative for herpes two and yes I have seen the test results. I have never had an outbreak or cold sore or anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone know how this happened to me? Thank you !

I'm sorry about this and for a late reply! I hope things have been okay in your relationship since you last posted.

I have a question! What made you get tested for HSV-2? did you have an active outbreak with a swab test or a blood test? This can help me better answer how you may have gotten it!

Hi thanks so much for responding! I thought to get blood tested again since I hadn’t since 2017 and I figured why not I thought it would be good to check on but I have never had an outbreak so I never got swabbed I do get frequent yeast infections I’m not sure if H would be the cause of that.  My relationship is going strong still thank you !

This is such a puzzle to me! I mean I was thinking that the original 2017 test didn't pick up on it (maybe you had just gotten it somehow?) Also, I know that HSV is related to chicken pox and many other viral strains, so maybe those could have affected the reading for HSV-2? Have you had any viral between 2017 and 2020?

I wish I could offer more hypotheses!!

That could be it that the 2017 test was wrong then the other mystery is how did my partner not contract this in allll of our unprotected years together ? Hmmm what does it mean have I had any viral like chicken pox ? I had a chicken pox when I was like 7-10 years old doctors don’t have anything to say besides I was unfaithful but I was not thanks for responding and talking with me about this sending happiness your way too 💖i accept I have this and am taking vicyclavir so my partner doesn’t get it hopefully he never does 🙂
