Valtrex side effects

I decided to try valtrex as a suppressive therapy 1x a day for my consistent prodrome symptoms. I’m fortunate that I don’t get sores, only tiny red bumps here and there, but the quick burn/zap that I feel in my buttocks is a constant reminder that I have HSV2. Does this mean that the virus is always active if I often have these prodrome symptoms?

Since starting the valtrex, I feel very tired. I know everyone will respond differently to medication, but I was curious if anyone else feels tired from taking it. I stopped it and tried it again a month later and noticed  again that it’s definitely causing me to be tired. Any thoughts?

Hey there @JJlove,

It's great that you're trying valtrex for your prodrome symptoms. The quick burn/zap in your buttocks can be a sign of the virus being active, but it doesn't mean it's always active. Prodrome symptoms often occur without a full outbreak.

Feeling tired from valtrex is something some people experience. Everyone reacts differently to medications. If the fatigue is too much, talk to your doctor. They might adjust your dose or suggest alternatives.

Hang in there, and I hope you find what works best for you!
