Can I pass genital herpes to my child if I have cuts on my hands?

Recommended Posts

Hi @Manzelde,

I get why you're concerned, but rest assured that genital herpes is generally passed through direct skin-to-skin contact involving the genital area, not through cracked hands or daily tasks like changing your child’s diaper. As long as you're practicing good hygiene — like washing your hands before and after you touch any active outbreaks and before/after diaper changes — there’s no real risk of passing the virus to your child this way. And if your hands are cracked, try using a heavy-duty hand cream to help them heal and avoid further discomfort. Try to not let your care devolve into paranoia. You're doing great by asking to make sure so you can calm any irrational worries!
