has anyone experienced a negative reaction from Acyclovir?

Recommended Posts

the doc had me on 400 mg 2x a day. I'm weird about taking new meds so i was taking half the dose to see if it gave me any side effects. that stuff had me so tired and nauseous i had to stop taking it. I would like to be on suppressive therapy so i can get a better hold on this mess... has anyone else experienced this? is there a better alternative? i've been taking a multivitamin for about a month but i just had another outbreak.

You are the second person I have heard to have the reaction - first, I would talk to your Dr to see if you should cut back and introduce more slowly. Some drugs need to have an introduction period where you start with a very low dose and increase over time...

OR - they can switch you to twice a day Acyclovir - that is what I am on and it's also cheaper (I have to pay for my meds out of pocket)...that might be a better option for you ...

Hope that helps :)

Hi Paul,

the first two weeks i tried antivirales i felt like pucking and tired the whole time , i needed to stop it but i started couple of month ago again and the second time i got less symtoms like i had before. Its really important that you take the medication in the morning with your food, dont take it seperatly or in the evening.I had the same issue with vitamins I took in the past ,I felt really sick about them , always take food with medication.
