Herpes outbreak resolved?

Hi everyone.

I'm new here. I was diagnosed with herpes just a few weeks ago with one of the worst outbreaks my doctor had ever seen. He wanted to hospitalize me but I refused due to finals week approaching. The outbreak finally healed just before Christmas. I noticed that the skin where the blisters were was rather sensitive due to the new skin. What I'm questioning is rather or not I have possibly resolved a second outbreak. I had the typical tingling sensation of the prodromal stage and immediately started taking my Valtrex twice a day and tripled the amount of L-lysine as well. The tingling only lasted maybe a full day, then I had one area that was really sensitive. Now, three days later, nothing is happening. Is it possible that I resolved the outbreak before it truly occurred?

First - welcome to the forums! Glad to meet you!

 

Sorry you had such a tough time of it but it seems that you have a pretty good handle on this... and yes, it sounds like you got it early enough. Which kind do you have, 1 or 2? If you have HSV1 genital then it could well be that it may settle down quickly and you may have few/no OB's in the future.

 

Some people have the Prodrome symptoms and never have an OB which is why many never know they have Herpes.... if you are lucky you will quickly join those folks :)

I'm so sorry your going threw this...I've had herpes for 1 year and 4 months. My first ob was pretty bad as well. I ended up in the hospital which all they could do was give me morphone wile iwas there and give me Norcos for the pain as well as valtrex. I'm in a terrible ob right now but your doing everything right. Catch it in the begging and you should be ok. When you feel the symptoms take your medicine right away and it'll help you stop it right away. There are other ways to help with ob. Take baths with epsome salt at lest 1 time a day when iget them bad itake two or three...this speeds up the process of drying them out and making them heal faster....if the pain is unbearable Ouse neosporine with pain relived on it and it helps me a lot.

Today is day seven since I felt the initial tingling. The sensitive spot is no longer sensitive. Is it safe to say I beat this outbreak?

Sounds like it...but you could still be shedding for a few more days.

 

Now, the trick is to find ways to keep you life calm and as stress free as possible and get your body as healthy as possible to keep from having another one ;)
