Help me - whatever is happening is killing me

Recommended Posts

Help, help, help. I am amazed there is such a community like this and you all seem so wonderful and supportive.

I apologize in advance. I am in a bit of despair to say the least.

Where do I begin. 4 months ago I had sex with a high risk woman. Used a condom. I did not do oral or touch her but she did oral and we had intercourse. She also touched herself and, not sure with same finger, but touched me too.

Since then I have had itching, burning, particularly rectal, debilitating pain, extreme back pain, tingling, the crawling under my skin feeling...felt flu like, nausea, swollen down there, discharge both front and back. Unable to concentrate. Exhausted all the time. Sleep problems massive.

Been 4 months since encounter. Have had a myriad of tests done. All negative. All blood or urine since no visible blisters have shown.

Only thing that can explain in my view is herpes. Doctors are telling me it is all in my head. I finally told my wife over 2 months ago. Causing problems at home and work.

My wife also believes it is only in my head. A urologist diagnosed as non-bacterial prostititus and told me to relax since all the serological tests were negative.

Since my wife believes it is all in my head she has engaged me sexually (using condom but I know this is risky).

Then I did oral on my wife and now I think I might have gotten oral herpes. Worse is that means I have it genitally and even worse have given it to her...and back to me orally if so.

Same symptoms - burning, itching in face. Crawling under the skin. I now have long white blisters in my mouth. Having my dentist look at them tomorrow morning.

Seeing an infectious diseases doctor without my wife knowing because she basically threatens to leave me if I persist in seeing doctors. Since she thinks it is all mental to be redundant but clear.

I, on the other hand, think I must. What a conflict.

So 4 months later I have been experiencing debilitating symptoms with no diagnosis.

I read that the blood tests can produce false negatives. This is what I assume Is happening?

Most recent herpes bold test was 3 weeks ago. Negative HIV, all the bacterial ones negative. Have had herpes test (blood) at least 4 times. First was 3 weeks post exposure. Then at weeks 6, 11 and 14 or so.

Help me? I am dying. Any thoughts?

@Shaman

First - welcome. Glad you found us.

So first of all, we can't diagnose anything...only give opinions and things for you to look into. However, I DO feel you could well be making yourself sick with all the guilt and worry...even if you have *something*, it will be worse from all the stress you are putting yourself through.

Herpes OB's rarely last more than a week or 10 days ... certainly a 4 month straight set of symptoms doesn't sound like H...also, the discharge, concentration issues, and exhaustion don't sound like H either. Also, it's very unlikely if you got H genitally that you would get it orally as well...at least not the same variety (which is what you are inferring with your explanation of doing Oral on her. AND, it sounds like she isn't having any symptoms herself. The "long white blisters" in your mouth are likely Canker sores... herpes doesn't generally break out in the mouth - only on the outside of the mouth.

It takes about 4-6 months for the virus to show on tests so it's not a false negative, you just tested too early ... but to be honest, I really agree with the Dr's ... I think it's likely you have something else going on...very possibly depression due to the worry and guilt. If the Dr that you are seeing tomorrow also says you are in the clear, I suggest you get to a good Mental health therapist (which may be a good idea anyway given how much you are agonizing over this, whether you are diagnosed with something or not)

The only thing that pops into my head is the parasite trichomoniasis, which is sexually transmitted, but it's very doubtful that your facial symptoms are that as you used a condom with your wife...but it's worth asking to be checked for that...it certainly would explain the discharge but not the exhaustion and concentration issues.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I'm not a Dr and we can't diagnose on here...all I can say is if this Dr comes up with nothing, then you may have to try to believe them and see if the symptoms subside.

Ok. Thank you. I am glad I found you all too.

That is very helpful. I need to sleep on it and absorb what you are saying.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I see from some research that the trichomoniasis can trigger the symptoms I am having if that is the cause. Wonder why has no one mentioned this...and there were two incidences before I had symptoms but after the sex with third party that I did not use a condom. That means to you this could have spread between us easier if that were the culprit?

I have already been on two different antibiotics as a preemptive maneuver (amox and Levaquin). Neither did anything. Do you know if this parasite only responds to the two antibiotics that sites say are needed to kill it. In other words, could I still have this parasite if I took antibiotics not listed as directed towards this parasite?

You may have more than one thing going on - the stress you are putting yourself under could cause the canker sores in the mouth.... don't know about the itching and burning in the face. Sorry - I'm not a Dr - I can give you a few ideas of what may be going on but in the end when someone has really confusing symptoms, we need the professionals to help us figure it out.

BTW, your screenname is Shaman - if you are involved in that kind of belief system then it's very possible you have "cursed yourself" because of error of judgement you made with the other person.... yes???

Just a thought here as I read thru the comments, I had a really bad yeast infection that caused all those symptoms... I was itching all over had white blistery patches in my mouth which was thrush, unusual feeling all over my body and had problems in the vjay area and my rectum.. I had to take dyflucan for almost a month and I had to do an oral rinse for thrush for about the same amount of time.. It came hand in hand when I was going thru my first out break..

They say with a yeast infection sometimes it can be so bad it does travel thru some parts of the skin... Sometimes they treat with iv if it gets that bad.. I'm so sorry ur going thru all this without knowing what's going on... It took almost a half of a year for me to find out everything.. And my herpes did not show up for 6 months.. But I did have all the flu symptoms but they only lasted 4 days thank god... U can have ur doctor swap the stuff in ur mouth and sometimes dentists are good at finding out what's in ur mouth.. Hope this helps.. Xoxoxo

Did they test you for the yeast infection early on? I have tested negative for everything both bacterially and virally (chlamydia, gon, UTI, herpes, HIV...) in terms of urine and blood tests. Did you do herpes tests along the way that were negative prior to outbreak?

@Iamme34 makes a good point - yeast (actually, the proper word is Candidiasis) infections can be really insidious and difficult to treat...esp once the body gets that far out of whack.

If that is the case (they determine it's yeast) in addition to the meds, you'll want to cut out ALL sugar and get on probiotics ... drink Kifir, REAL yogurt (not the store brands that kill most of the good flora with their homogenizing and pasteurizing), or get a GOOD brand of probiotic in pill form. Yeast LOVES sugar so the better you are at taking that out of your diet the faster you will recover.

I have a couple friends who have strong yeast sensitivities...they tell me when they cheat and take on sugar, they feel like crap the next day...so this all fits in with your exhaustion and a number of the other symptoms. Def worth checking out.

@shaman yes they said everything was normal and I told them I thought I had herpes..

They kept looking at it and saying no, that's not it.. Without ever swabbing it.. I went almost 4 months without any answers..

My dad was a dentist and told me I had thrush and wrote me a prescription,

The first time I didn't swallow it, so I had to repeat it and swallow it because it was low in my throat, second time worked, also took dyflucan for almost 6 weeks to knock it out.. I wasn't told about my herpes until almost 5 months after this bat with yeast.. Which brought me almost to a year in having it.. I really knew when I received it.. But doctors kept me thinking otherwise.. I was told from a friend who had herpes that she had a huge problem with a yeast infection too when she was diagnosed.. Sometimes I think the body tells us when it knows something we don't.. I was tested for everything and nothing.. I just kept going but switch doctors for almost every visit.. Until I got the right answer... For almost 6 months straight I was getting tested... It came up in my blood 8 months after exposure and the doctor said u knew u had it didn't you.. Sometimes switching doctors can help ... If it is a yeast infection once u start taking things for it and cutting sugars, it takes a bit to clear but the itching subsides.. I hope this helps, I know it's frustrating specially with doctors... But keep ur head up, and search for answers :0)

Thanks Lamme. So you had blisters showing up but you were not tested or tested negative? So far, I have not had "blisters" either genitally or in my mouth - the recent stuff in my mouth does not look like herpes and I have not identified any blisters in my genitals, just all the other symptoms. Any way, this is so great to have people to talk to. I may regret saying this but having the persistent symptoms (now burning face plus all the genital area symptoms) at times seems worse without a diagnosis no matter what the conclusion is. It creates such confusion for me. I am trying, now, other routes including acupuncture and hypnsosis to see if I can delineate the mental from the physical...

Good for you for looking to other options... and yes, not knowing can be MUCH worse than knowing.... once you know who your enemy is, you can work out a battle plan.... ask anyone in a war zone... it's the snipers and silent drones that cause the most anxiety because you don't know where they are or what they will do next :(
