How does it work when both partners have herpes (hsv-2)?!

Hey y'all! I've been here a few times with questions, now I'm back! I hope you have all been well. For all of those people who have just found out and feel like their lives are over and they are undesirable, etc. --- remember, it will pass. I still feel crappy sometimes, but since finding out I have been dealing with it rather decently. Life is bigger than this, I promise. This forum has helped a lot and I appreciate you all for the advice and kind words. :)

Anyway, back to the question. My bf who had given me hsv-2 is currently experiencing his first outbreak. (Or so he thinks). I had a tiny sore which I thought was a hair follicle infection but it seems like it might've been an outbreak. I was also sick with a bad sore throat headache, body ache, etc. We had sex while I had the sore but before the weird cold bc it didn't hurt. Then he ended up getting a bunch of tiny sores down there. Has had it for about a week now it's scabbing up. He's a lot more tender and I guess scared now. Did I cause him to have an outbreak? How does this all work if you both have hsv-2? I thought it would be easier to deal with bc we don't have to worry about infecting one another and whatnot. I didn't know I could cause more outbreaks! Eek. Lol

Thanks again guys.

No - you can't give him "more" of the virus ... the only thing that may have contributed to his OB is if you had rough sex - some people report that it can set things off, esp when they are in their first year or so with the virus.

Now - one question - do you both know your HSV1 status? One thing that *may* have happened is if you have H1 oral and gave it to him genitally with oral sex if he doesn't already have it... which would explain the OB... BUT... it's also entirely likely he may just be having an OB now for the first time. If it happens again get it swabbed just so you know if its H1 or 2.

WCS -- thank you for responding. Maybe this is his first year having it too and the sex triggered this outbreak. I have no idea. Is it possible to have out breaks that aren't super noticeable? I know I have hsv-2 and not 1, so I don't think that was it. Thanks again!
