ok.. i think thats what ill do. When i said strange thing to get i mean strange to have such a horrible reaction to it. I no doubt am not having sex with someone until i know them on a deeper level. I am going to build my relationship up with them first then when the time is right i will take her in to get tested and i would get tested to ease her mind as well. This has been the biggest eye opener. Sex is crazy, if only we couldve waited til we got married to enjoy how life wouldve been so much more simpler.

Well, I don't agree with the waiting for sex.... one thing I have learned is that sexual preferences between people can make or break a relationship. Sex may only be a small part of our time together but if you have very different needs in the bedroom it can put a lot of strain on the relationship..... BUT, I wish we were better educated ... obviously there are "other" sexually transmissible infections that are not on the "normal" list that the CDC deems to be too rare or unimportant enough to worry about...BEYOND herpes..... increased public awareness would hopefully get more people to use condoms and get tested more frequently.... and that could only be a "positive" thing ;)

John,

A little late on the thread, but just wanted to comment:

It is related. Do a simple google search with HSV 2+(Neuralgia/post-herpetic neuralgia/neuropathy) and you would find lots of people affected by the same non-stop burning, pinning, electric shocks, inner gauging that you are feeling. Me myself have had the pain experiences for three years. Everyone feel the same as you, dismissed by the outdated medical community on HSV. I have seen 5 doctors and all of them stick to the typical, 30 yr old condition literature. The outbreaks and the stigma are just below the anguish and anxiety that the constant nerve pain puts on you, as you cannot concentrate, work, or stop wondering what is wrong with your body. Please continue with your research cause you are not alone. 25% of people have herpes, only 10% know they have it, and only a minimun percentage experience the constant nerve pain. Again, and unfortunatelly against the dismissal of our dear forum members, it is related, it is real, and it is one of yhe worst part of this virus. My heart goes to you, buddy.

Noone here ever said that you can't/don't get ongoing nerve pain from Herpes and we all agree that the Medical community is sadly outdated with their Herpes info. But I feelthe need to correct the last part of your statement:

Again, and unfortunatelly against the dismissal of our dear forum members, it is related, it is real, and it is one of yhe worst part of this virus.

We never "dismissed" his symptoms ... but he was consistently coming up with a H- result so the *odds* were that it was something else... and as a Massage Therapist I have people in my office all the time with nerve pain that is VERY similar to the nerve pain of Herpes that is caused by nerve entrapment. And @John's job put him at high risk for this kind of nerve injury/issue. In addition, he was getting pain on his face which wouldn't be a sign of Herpes.... And, @Arial quoted Terri Warren who is one of the TOP Herpes specialists in the country (she certainly isn't "outdated" in her info)..... So ... *giventhe info that @john gave us* our feeling was that it's probably not Herpes but we encouraged him to:

get to a Dr and refuse to leave the office until they take this seriously. *suggest* the htlv and request the test but tell them you want them to start testing you for EVERYTHING that might be at all related. Tell them it's getting worse. Don't harp on the possibility of it being from your one night stand... just tell them to figure it out ... it could be an imbalance in your hormones, in vitamins, or a virus, or some kind of disease that suddenly decided to come on. It may just be by chance that it happened after the one nighter. To only focus on that is actually keeping you from the possibility of a diagnosis. Just get in there and get them to start testing you for ANYTHING it might be.

As a health care professional I can tell you there are TONS of things that can cause Nerve Pain ... and focusing on only one possibility (with no + herpes result) was keeping him from exploring the many other *possible* causes. Also, he was getting pain on his face which

If you read all the way through, it looks like he DID get a diagnosis... of CMV:

ok, htlv came back negative. Thank the lord. Ebv came back negative as well. CMV came back positive. Hard to say but im thinking that this is what did it. Most people already have cmv as a child and dont have much for symptoms. however when an adult catches it ive read it tends to be more worse. So as i previously stated i think i contracted cmv and have sjogrens syndrome so i had a bad immune response to it. Thats as best i can come up with the results i have so far. And since all tests are negative i have to accept that. This is good news.

So by telling him to not focus on Herpes as the cause (which he was focused on because of his feelings of guilt)we HELPED him to get a diagnosis. We looked at the WHOLE picture and encouraged him to keep fighting for an answer and it seems like he got it. ;)
