How long until the post herpes outbreak itching stops and pink scars go away?

Recommended Posts

Finished my first full dose of 1000 mg x 2/day Valtrex for 10 days, 6 days ago. Sores have been gone for 12 days. While I don't have the full body itching I had before, I'm still having itching on shaft of my penis where the outbreak happened. Does anyone know when this typically goes away.

Also, I have blisters/sores where is pinkish and while it looks healed (i.e. not open, no blisters or pain) when will the pinkness go away? In other words, does the skin in the area of the outbreak ever start to look normal?

I'll leave it to others to give their experiences but the basic answer is that everyone has a different experience AND you will find that successive OB's usually settle down faster over time. You may want to try Aloe or Zinc cream to help with the itching...some people swear by Melissa Balm too. And others like Epsom Salts baths ... dump a few handfuls of salts between your legs and let it sit for awhile.

I can tell you mine itched for weeks. Jock itch would have been a blessing in comparison. Aloe. Aloe helps considerably; get the cream, not the gel. The cream helps it heal whereas the alcohol in the gel just irritates it.

As far as the pink, I had the same problem and it terrified me. It goes away, but it might take a month or so. Again, the aloe helps the skin heal.
