Herpes and personal grooming

Recommended Posts

So it's been awhile since I've shaved my legs and nether regions. One it's been cold and two I've been a but paranoid. I have shaved my legs but have steered clear from my lady parts. Well today with the Cali weather warming up again I went on a grooming spree. I checked myself out pretty good all seemed ok so I went to town. I did get a slight nick down there even though I was trying to be careful. Should I be concerned that I'm going to have an episode now? Does anyone have any suggestions in this area?

I wish I could help with the more logistical cases concerning women, but I 1) don't have the lady parts to make that feasible and 2) don't shave my legs. ;)

But what I do know is that there is a possibility of any sort of aggravation of that area can stimulate a herpes outbreak, but it doesn't mean that herpes will "spread" there. For the most part, people will have outbreaks in the same general area. Other times, rough sex or any other way that the area gets aggravated leads to the nerves to carry the virus to the surface of the skin. Keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't be paranoid about it. Ultimately, it is what it is. Get to know your body and see what happens. You can always deal with it in the moment and worrying about it doesn't help anybody. :) Much love! I hope I helped even though I don't share the lady parts!

I've actually knicked myself several times down there and sometimes I'll get a bump due to it and I'll freak out that it's an outbreak for like 5 days and take 3x of my suppresives instead of two....and then the bump doesn't really leave for like 2+ weeks and turns out it was what it was: a bump. Hahah. I feel so paranoid all the time, but more often than not, if you haven't had an outbreak there, chances are you won't get one, especially due to a little cut. :)

Hi there,

I'm not an expert at this because I'm pretty newly diagnosed (this past November), but I have shaved in that area and accidentally knicked myself twice doing it, and fortunately this did not result in an outbreak for me. So I bet you'll be fine. We can be really great at making ourselves crazy with the paranoia though - hang in there!
