Herpes questions: Is buzzing feeling prodrome? Bleeding with intercourse? Outbreak location?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! This site has been amazing for me and has helped me understand herpes more and I thank you all for that but I still have some concerns. Sorry if this post is long winded it's taken me ages to pluck the courage up to write it!!

I was diagnosed with genital herpes last March I'm not sure what type. I'm married and we have two kids I was diagnosed a few years after having my last child.

Since being diagnosed I feel like a petri dish and having herpes makes me feel very anxious having children that I spread it to my girls like if I take them swimming and they brush past me or if I don't wash my hands properly after I use the toilet and I have an outbreak and I then bath my kids (which Is very unlikely as i am so futher with my hand washing that I feel it's becomming an obsession). I just in general feel contagious all the time which I know sounds ridiculous. I know a lot of what I'm feeling is down to anxiety I just want to feel like a normal person again. I'm a loving mummy and just want to cuddle my baby's without feeling scared to. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have had lots of outbreaks since being diagnosed which don't seem to cause me any pain I just seem to get a thrush like feeling. Before being diagnosed I had sores but just never realised putting it down to shaving rashes. I was taking valtrex for 6 months and had no outbreaks and I was more relaxed but then the Dr wanted me to stop the valtrex to see how my body would react only treating outbreaks when I got one and within a week of stopping the valtrex I got another out break and get one at least once a month.Ive started taking lysine which seems to be helping along with vitd3 and a multivitamin with a probiotic.

I have a few questions.

1. I get a strange buzzing in my lips ( I don't have cold sores and never have) and I get a buzzing in my back does anyone else experience this?

2. For the last 4 years I have had slight bleeding after intercourse which is now going to be investigated with a colposcopy. I have had normal smears. Has anyone else experienced this sort of bleeding and I wondered if it could be linked to the herpes?

3. I was diagnosed by having a swab taking from one site which I haven't had another outbreak in that area since. I get out breaks regularly in another site but my last outbreak was in another place but cleared up very quickly. Is this the norm as I thought outbreaks tend to pop up in the same place?

Thanks any advice would be appreciate

Hello and Welcome!

I've been out of town so I'm going to have to cut to the chase and just give short quick answers for you to get you started.

1) You should get your test results from the swab. Odds are if your hubby has cold sores, you got HSV1 from oral sex .... but it's useful to know so you know if you need to do more to protect your hubby or not..

2) you are NOT a Petri dish ... I've had gential H since I was 17... oral H since I was 4 ... didn't know till my then hubby got it that my "rashes" were OB's ... had 2 daughters after that and neither got it from me and they are 26 and 28 now .... have a 4 yr old granddaughter and haven't managed to pass it to her either. The virus doesn't live long outside the body, it dies quickly in water (esp soapy water) and on dry surfaces.... so given you have GENITAL H, your kids are QUITE safe :) Check out my blog on the subject:

3) If you went off the anti-virals cold turkey then your body needs to re-learn how to deal with the virus. What I usually do is take a double dose of the anti-viral as soon as I feel something and then I attack it from the outside (my go to is Ammonium Alum) ... here's a bunch of things you can do that may help - the point is you need to find something that dries it up quickly and sends it packing before the OB's get out of hand ;)

4) Bleeding during intercourse: thats for a Dr to figure out. You *may* have internal OB's ... you *may* have any one of a handful of other things going on.

5) Your 1st OB is generally where you acquired the biggest "dose" of the virus initially ... but some may have gained entry to the body in other areas or you may have autoinnoculated other areas in the first few weeks ... and they may not break through initially. After a year or so you should know where most of your normal spots are :)

Hope that helps - I'll happily answer more when I catch up if you have more questions :)
