Oops I did this to myself? And some other non-rhetorical questions.

I'm 25, and I just found out I have herpes.

So, about a week ago a strange little red bump appeared on the center of my bottom lip. I thought it was a split, or I had irritated my lip with some food I'm kind of allergic to... Whatever. Had a date with this wonderful guy. My lip kept getting worse as time went on. We kissed and fooled around and I gave him oral. He gave me oral. Well on Monday I woke up with a TERRIBLE sore throat and a fever, so I went to the doctor to get a strep culture. It wasn't strep, but the doctor immediately pointed out the now super gnarly red spot on my lip and asked if I had ever had a cold sore before.

The whole illness it turns out is a set of initial outbreak symptoms for oral herpes. Well, I got antivirals and some topicals for the lip, when a few days later some sores turn up on my vagina. Before the doctor told me what was on my lip, I wasn't careful and I touched all sorts of stuff I shouldn't have. So now I also have genital herpes. I'm worried about my eyes and fingers but they seem to be doing ok.

I think I'm over the initial shock, still kinda want to cry about it. The wonderful guy I'm seeing, I've already told him and explained that he's the only person I've been with aside from my ex who I was with for 5 years. So either I've had this for a very long time or I got it from him. He took it well, even when I explained the extremely significant infection risk he was exposed to. He still wants me, and that was the biggest relief in all of this.

Now I'm just trying to survive this initial outbreak. Thanks to the valtrex I'm taking, the outbreak on my vagina seems to be pretty mild. I Just have a few sores that aren't too bothersome. My lip on the other hand is a big nasty mess, and I'm worried about more sores opening around my mouth too. Those areas have been tingly so I've been putting abreva on them to hopefully discourage further sores.

So I guess the worst thing is I still feel like I have the flu, 5 days later, with very little improvement. Any tips for that?

Also, after the initial batch of blisters, is it common for more to open at other sites? Shouldn't my antiviral medication prevent that?

The big nasty on my lip won't keep a scab. In the morning, the whole thing just falls off when I go to put ointment on it, but now it just looks kind of bloody underneath where it was looking kind yellow before. Hopefully it's healing?

I've been feeling really really alone. I'm glad I found this site. Thanks for any advice or support you can provide.

@Tetherless I'm confused? So did you have this on your lip before the guy or after? Sounds like if you had it on your lip, you guys kissed and he went down on you, he spread it to you possibly from your oral infection.

If you didn't have it before kissing him, then sounds like he gave it to you both places.

As far as how long symptoms last, it's different for everyone and there is no telling. You just gotta ride out the initial OB and this is a new infection for you, based on how sick you are from this OB.

I have to keep this short because I have limited internet right now. But if you have not had a swab and or blood work done to diagnose you then you're going on a visual diagnosis. Which means that is entirely possible but the stuff going on on your vagina is completely unrelated to what sounds like it could be oral herpes. Your doctor should never have done a eventual diagnosis and that shows that he does not really understand the virus as well as he should.

If you get another sore on your vagina, get yourself to Planned Parenthood, or an OBGYN and have it swabbed. There are many other things that can cause vaginal sores and blisters. Also you really should get the sore on your mouth swabs.

It's highly unlikely that you got a HSV1 from yourself. Once you already have oral herpes, its very unusual to get it down below. Although it's not impossible. It without 12, you're going on guess work, not scientific fact.

I'll try to pop in later to add more to this if you need more information.
