Brazilian Waxers of the forum UNITE! I got some questions.

Recommended Posts

So! I have been wanting to try a Brazilian wax forever. After getting the H in December I ruled that out. Here I am in a much better place than I was then and I'm exploring my options of trying one again. I know, there is a risk of triggering a breakout, simply because I don't know how my body will react. I guess this post is just to get some feedback on any ladies (or guys!) who have H and take that trip to Brazil every few weeks ;). I'm terrified, but I set my appointment for this Saturday and I'm gonna do it!! May I add I do take suppressive medication! Thanks for your help!

Hey there! I've had one Brazilian since my diagnosis and was scared sh*tless, but my skin was fine. I got it 9 mos post-diagnosis and am on suppressive meds as well. I avoided sex/friction for the first 48 hours and just listened to my body. No problems for me! I would definitely avoid it if you felt any prodromes coming on, however.

Hope this helps!

I used a do it yourself kit, ouch! I found the waxing far better than the shaving. I am 2 months since diagnosis of GHSV1. I was feeling that I was getting OB's all the time from the discomfort of the regrowth after shaving and would get razor bumps and more ingrown hairs. For me the waxing has really liberated me in taking away my paranoia about having OB's, I feel now I know better what's going on down there, I've been able to see more too I think with a handheld mirror. The waxing didn't cause any OBs for me.

In saying that I cannot face doing it myself again so will have to go in and have it done professionally, so I'm a bit nervous about the prospect of that but will have to "bite the bullet".

LOL it will never be done again by me for sure, stupid not brave! I have never had it done professionally either so I had no reference point for pain! I'm sure a professional will be less than me. I'm about ready now yet the regrowth isn't bothering me itch wise, however I'm guessing if it's too long the pain will be more!

I used to visit Brazil regularly but since diagnosis haven't been due to sheer nerves - however I will bite the bullet and get it done in the next couple of weeks so will update once it's over and done with. I personally rate waxing over shaving and have missed having them done (despite the temporary pain!) All I can suggest is to go and see a good waxist who uses hot wasx (strip waxing takes off the top layer of skin which is why it is so much more painful!) and breathing out as the wax comes off definitely helps. Deep breath in and sharp breath out. Good luck and keep us updated!!

I was just diagnosed this month with genital hsv and I regularly get Brazilian waxing done, however I haven't gotten one sense being diagnosed. I get sugaring done because it's less painful and causes even less irritation than wax. I'm nervous about it causing an outbreak though, but I'll have to try it and see. I'll update you all after I go some time in September. I wish you all and myself the best of luck!

Update: I had my wax done today!!! It wasn't terrible lol It did hurt, but I had a great girl who was super friendly and kept me talking. I took some OTC 30 minutes before I went, not sure if it helped but I got through it! I also doubled up on my surpressives yesterday into today. I don't see anything yet (I got it done at 10 this morning) and I don't feel any discomfort or tingles. We'll see what the next few days bring. Thanks for your help again ladies!

I've had Hvs2 for 5 years, and waxed religiously for 4 (I've since moved on to laser hair removal down there). Sometimes waxing would trigger an outbreak for me, but that was before I was prescribed antivirals. Taking [for me] valtrex, consistently before and after each session (waxing or laser) has been huge for preventing outbreaks. I can't remember getting an OB after with the meds.

Hope that helps!
