Oral herpes down there...

Recommended Posts

Just received the word that I have type 1 HSV down there. I know it's not the end of the world. Who knows how long I've had it. Any tips on not transferring it to my boyfriend. He hasn't been tested yet he will have blood work done soon. So oral sex is off the table now huh?

I would like to know about oral sex as well. My daughter has ghsv1 as well. She is trying to get the ex who she believes gave it to her to go get tested. Does anyone know if Planned parenthood will do a blood test for herpes? I am also curious about transmission if a condom is used as well as medication. I am glad to hear @mj8989 you are doing ok with the diagnosis. My daughter wasn't at first, but i think has come to terms somewhat, but hasn't started dating again, and I think this is the reason why.

Well, until you guys know if he has it from tests, is the only way to know for sure. Sounds like you may have got it from him orally and if he has it orally, then there's no reason to refrain from oral sex.

Getting on daily suppression meds and using Condoms should lower the risk to 1% as long as you sustain during symptoms.

Often times PP will discourage the blood test, but if pushed, they usually will.

Hello and Welcome:

So - some quick stats:

60% o young people have oral herpes by the time they are young adults

80% of people have oral herpes by the time they are 40

80% of all those people have no idea that they have it

50% of all new genital cases of herpes are from oral herpes

Odds are very high that you got it from your BF and thus he will have the antibodies to it already. So if that is the case then you don't have to worry about oral sex and "regular" sex will carry a very small risk (both because it sheds LOT less than HSV2 down there and if your BF has it orally, he has the antibodies to it)..

So in general, oral sex shouldn't be off the table for you ... but get him tested. Tell him to tell the people at PP that he's sure he was exposed to it and that he had blisters (even tho he hasn't) and he's getting into a relationship and needs to know hit status. They are more likely to do a blood test if they think you have had symptoms than if you are "just worried" you *may* have it..Sometimes you gotta know how to work the system to get the tests you need.... ;)
