Second outbreak

Recommended Posts

Well guys, I thought I would be one of the lucky ones who goes through life never experiencing another outbreak but I was wrong! It started yesterday with some itchiness and tenderness and only when I looked reeeeeally closely could I see a few very very small bumps/blisters. I bought some Epsom salts and went to bed and the itch kept me up a lot of the night!

This morning the bumps don't seem to have changed much and the itch is a little less. I am going to head to the clinic and ask for an episodic dose of antivirals to nip it in the bud. I would also like something for the itch-lidocaine??

So 3 months post diagnosis and I'm experiencing my 2nd OB which is much of an emotional/mental headf**k as its reminded me that I have this pesky virus.

My question is-how often should I now expect this to happen? Is it still possible that I don't see this for a while or am I now bound to have OBs regularly? I guess everyone is different but how have everyone else's experiences been in their first year?

Thanks for listening. I'm feeling a bit down :(

Did you actually soak in the bath w the salt? That's the only thing that takes my itch away. This is still a new infection for you, so be patient, it will become less and less over time.

You're asking a question nobody can answer. I can't even predict mine, except for my period and when drinking 5 drinks of liquor and staying out to the wee hrs. I didn't have back to back obs until I got my year. Now I've had 8 back to back obs and I take daily suppressive therapy! So there's no telling. Our immune systems are as unique as our thumb prints, which means its different for everyone in how thwir body deals w the virus. I day feel blessed it took 3 months. I had two a monyh the first yr and then hit my year in July a d have had back to back ever since

@LittleStar

Sorry friend but we can't tell you how long you will go between OB's ... whether you will eventually not have them, or if you will have successive OB's. Sooo much affects frequency and severity: immune issues, hormones, diet, exercise, stress, age, how long you've had it, etc.

3 months between OB's for a newly acquired carrier is pretty good. Keep taking care of your health and with luck, you will be one of those who only have a few OB's/yr.

You just have to be patient.. The first year is unpredictable really. I've just reached my year this month and waiting to see if I will have an outbreak for the month of september right before my period, which is usually when mine comes. I have had outbreaks come every other month and then have 2-3 outbreaks in one month. Be patient my friend and don't be hard on yourself, easier said than done I know. I am just now coming to terms with the virus and realizing its not a life ruiner. I have herpes, but herpes doesn't have me.
