partner gave me hsv1?

Recommended Posts

Just found out i have hsv1 but in the vaginal area. I was in shock and surprised. I've been with my boyfriend for 11 years and this is the first time i had an outbreak this painful. I was tested back in June, blood test, for hsv2 but came back negative, when i had a cut down there. This month i had a reaction again before my period had started and my dr did a swab and tested. Came back hsv1. I told my boyfriend and he did not take the news too well. Of course his first thought was that i cheated, which i didn't, but he has in the past. I've tried to tell him informative about this disease from what I've found on cdc and webmd websites, even information I've found on here. He's finding it hard to believe that he gave me hsv1 because he has shown no symptoms or signs, and that all of a sudden I'm showing signs. He will be calling the dr Monday and making an appointment to get tested for this specific std. And now to my question. ..sorry for the long story. ..but is there a possibility that he will test negative and i only show positive?

Well tell him, he's the one who gave it to you through oral sex . 80% of those w herpes show no symptoms. My gf who has HSV 2 always thought she never had HSV 1 until she took a blood test and came up positive, as she has no obs. I was infected w hsv1 orally at 22 by my ex. I had an OB I side my mouth only and to this day 12yrs later, do not get cold sores. You need to bring him on this site and he needs to go get his blood tested. I am willing to bet 100% dollars, no lie, I will pay pal you the mo ey if I'm wrong, that he comes up positive for HSV 1. 60% of those w orla H get it as children and may not even remember their first OB or if they even had one. Even babies get it from infected adults kissing their mouth.

Thanks for your input@2legit ...i have shared him all this information but he's hard headed. Until he gets tested and gets answers from his dr, he stuck on how come he never showed signs or symptoms. And say if i had this before i met him..how come I'm just showing signs now. And if i gave this to him how come he never showed symptoms or signs. Right now too many things are going thru his head. ..he knows that i wouldn't cheat but for him its not making sense.

@newmom2014

Yes, it's *possible* ... you could have had this for all this time and only just started to have OutBreaks. I have a client who had her first HSV2 OB after 30 yrs of marriage and her hubby is H-.

However, I'd put my bet on him having HSV1 orally and that he gave it to you. 60% of all young people have HSV1 orally by Adulthood.... 80% of all adults have it ... and 80% of them DON'T Know they have it... so odds are REALLY high he's in that subset of the population......

I just hope his Dr is properly educated. I'd actually suggest he go to Planned Parenthood rather than a PCP/GP because most of them are TERRIBLY poorly educated. Your odds of him getting ACCURATE info are far higher by going to a place where they deal with H every day.... otherwise, perhaps you can go with him and have the printouts with you in case the Dr is way off base?

Denial is normal for those who are asymptomatic ... I hope he wakes up soon and realizes he owes you an apology for doubting you ....

(((HUGS)))

Was this the CDC info you gave him? I'd print this out and highlight the bits that I've marked on here

How do people get genital herpes?

Infections are transmitted through contact with lesions, mucosal surfaces, genital secretions, or oral secretions. HSV-1 and HSV-2 can also be shed from skin that looks normal. In persons with asymptomatic HSV-2 infections, genital HSV shedding occurs on 10% of days, and on most of those days the person has no signs or symptoms. [4] Generally, a person can only get HSV-2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. Transmission most commonly occurs from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected. [5]

How common is genital herpes?

CDC estimates that, annually, 776,000 people in the United States get new herpes infections.23. Genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, 15.5 % of persons aged 14 to 49 years have HSV-2 infection. 22 The overall prevalence of genital herpes is likely higher than 15.5%, because an increasing number of genital herpes infections are caused by HSV-1. 2 HSV-1 is typically acquired in childhood; as the prevalence of HSV-1 infection has declined in recent decades, people may have become more susceptible to genital herpes from HSV-1.
