Long Duration Outbreak ~ Any Advice

Recommended Posts

So I found out about a year and a half ago that I have HSV2. I'm coping just fine emotionally and psychologically. My first outbreak lasted nearly two months. I didn't have a whole lot of blisters but endured some excruciating lower back pain. Anyhow, a month ago today I noticed three blisters on the shaft of my penis. I started and continued on valacyclovir for 20 days (60 pills) and it still didn't clear up. I work remotely so have no access to a pharmacy to seek medication. I've also been taking L-Lysine, vitamins A & E, garlic, Echinacea, goldenseal, lecithin, zinc and selenium daily. I ran out of meds about three days ago. I just discovered seven or eight new blisters, white and everything, on the head of my penis. I'm a pretty healthy, active guy and don't get sick very often; I'd say I have a fairly decent immune system. But, these outbreaks are lasting forever and it's difficult to deal with. I have a girlfriend who is HSV2 negative and is fully aware of my affliction; she's supportive and absolutely wonderful. I go home for two weeks two days from now and was thinking I'd be cleared up and we could enjoy some intimacy which now looks rather bleak. The generic Valtrex doesn't seem to work for me; I contacted my doctor who prescribed me acyclovir as an alternative. I figured I'd try it and see if it would make the blisters which were seemingly disappearing go away. The doc recommended ultraviolet blood irradiation therapy as an alternative. She said it works rather quickly but there's not a lot of information out there with regards to treating herpes with it. Does anybody have any feedback on that treatment? And what's the good word with acyclovir - good, bad, indifferent? So, can anybody throw some advice out there? Please!

I am looking into a drug called LDN, it is supposed to boost your immune system and helps those w recurrent obs, because I have the same problem. When I hit a yr 3 months ago, I had back to back obs for two months, even 2 grams of valtrex did nothing, so I went back to 500mlg and eventually it stopped. Are you not sleeping much or stressed?

Can't give you any advice on the other treatments, because have not heard of that blood treatment or used that other antiviral. I will say, if she's willing to give you a treatment that doesn't appear to be traditional medicine/treatment, you may wanna throw LDN at her.. She sounds like she's open to alternative solutions.

Thank you for the info @2Legit2Quit!!! I don't stress about anything. However, I work two weeks on / two weeks off and at work I wake up at 4:30 every morning and work a twelve hour shift north of the Arctic Circle. I only get 5-6 hours of sleep up here which could very well be a contributing factor. Can you tell me more about this LDN treatment?

Has anyone on here heard anything about ultraviolet blood irradiation therapy?

I don't know how quickly you can get packages up there but there are online Dr's now that you can "consult" with and I'm sure if you need a script for the anti-virals they could get it for you, then you could go to an online pharmacy and have them shipped to you?

Certainly the stress and lack of sleep won't be helping. In future, bring Epsom Salts back (if you can't bathe, make a solution and use a washcloth to soak the area with it) and or Ammonium Alum and/or Bactine ... I find attacking H from the outside can make a HUGE difference to the length of an OB. I'll include all the links for solutions below so you can have what you need with you in the future.

I suggest you keep a journal of what you are eating, activities, stressors, etc ... see if you can see a pattern for what makes it worse. I often say that Herpes is like a "first responder" to the health of your body ...

As for ultraviolet? I can't speak for it. I don't know how that could work as the virus is not in the blood, it's in the nerves. Now, I've heard of Oxygenation therapy where they draw blood and treat it and *that* makes more sense to be as many of these virus/bugs don't do well in the presence of oxygen.... but I don't know any studies/stats on that either.
