Feeling scared!

Recommended Posts

So I was diagnosed about a week and half ago. I'm not in my home state so I had to go to an urgent care. They don't have my results back but she did the visual diagnosis. I had sores and eveverything. I finished the 10 day supply of Valtrex (actually the generic version) and I'm still not 100%. I know this all varies from person to person but I'm scared of another full blown OB. I won't be able to get to my gyno for a few weeks still and the Dr I saw won't give me a refill since they are not Primary Care Physicians... does anyone have any insight? I'm feeling uncomfortable while peeing still and some itching but no noticeable sores. Is this normal to have lingering feelings of an OB but no actual OB?? Also (and sorry for TMI) I gave myself some clitoral stimulation. No toys or insertion, and when I finished it HURT inside. Any insight on that??

Hello and Welcome!

First, your best bet is to go to Planned Parenthood rather than a clinic/UCare as they are much better educated and able to help you. They may be able to help you with the meds ...

Yes lingering prodromes are normal, especially after a first outbreak as your body is fighting the virus... it takes up to 4 months for enough antibodies to develop to be detectable and to be able to fight it off ... some people have 1 OB then never have another symptom, others may take months for the body to settle down, and we can't tell you where you will be in that spectrum... sorry :(

I suggest you keep a journal of what you are eating, activities, stressors, etc ... see if you can see a pattern for what makes it worse. I often say that Herpes is like a "first responder" to the health of your body ... although in the first few months, it's often just that your body needs time to figure out how to get it under control.

Second - attack it from the outside ... I'm going to put a bunch of links but generally Epsom Salts baths (drop a double handful of the salts between your legs so its concentrated there), followed by thorough drying (even using a hair drier to get it really dry), maybe going commando, and using Bactine (which helps to kill the virus AND numb it thanks to the lidocaine in it) ... or my favorite, Ammonium Alum ... but there's LOTS of suggestions in the links. I find if you attack it from the outside, the inside can do it's job better :)

As for peeing, pee in the shower or pour water over the area when you pee... that can make a HUGE difference!

Well I am out of town so my normal eating and drinking habits are wayyy out of whack. Been drinking alcohol almost every night but I've been taking vitamins and get pretty good sleep. I head home soon so hopefully I'll be able to get a better grip on it once I get there. And I plan on going to see my gyno. Thank you for all of the info, @WCSDancer2010, I'll look into it!

Does the bathing help even if the sores and itching are on the inside?

Do you know, does drinking alcohol while on any anti-viral medication reduce the potency of the med like in antibiotics?

And do you or anyone else have any knowledge or experience with what I described when I gave myself an orgasm? Can't have sex, can't masturbate..... Sucks! Lol

Thank you again!

If the epsom salts get up inside they should help a bit....

Some people can't touch alcohol when their body is struggling with the virus. Doesn't mean you will *never* be able to drink again, but it may be a good idea to stop drinking until your body has control of the virus.

As for the issue of the orgasm, I assume that the increased blood flow and whatever just made things even more sensitive.... certainly over time that should decrease as well :)

@JJJ2015

I've been off my meds since Tuesday (on GP's prescription) and am planning to see if my body is getting control of the OB by itself before I go for supressive therapy, but still had the sensitive skin (the pins and needles type feeling on thighs when you touch them etc). It was slowly fading away and I told the bf I was refraining from any 'fun' face time until I was sure everything was settled down but I might have had an accidental rambunctious moment (or 2, I keep thinking my OB is over and my bf is such a sweetheart oops) where I was fine until I climaxed and I felt a nerve sting from my clit to the right side of my groin. It's always the same place. And then it's like I feel my nerve endings existing, if that makes sense? Now the sensitive skin has weirdly moved from the thigh area to the back of my upper arm? Not sure if that's normal.

So I have no explanation for you but I'm definitely having a similar reaction.

So yeah, I've now told the bf that we def need some downtime on the playtime because I don't want to risk still struggling with my OB next time we see each other, if I can help it. He's super supportive but we always end up doing things I shgould be avoiding :)

But yeah, it sucks balls, tbh. This is the hardest part right now for me. Not getting frisky with my latin bae :( And it's really hard to tell when it's safe to go for it again. I don't kow how to estimate it.

So I can't help you, but I'm hoping someone else will pop up?

Good to know this all seems normal. I am slightly worried there was something else going on along with the H. I did have a UTI along with the beginning of my first OB. Not fun. Thank you for sharing @Nal! Hopefully it'll get better for both of us soon!

I'll try Epsom baths when I get home! I think they said wait 7-10 days with no signs/symptoms before sex but it sounds like my symptoms may be lingering for months since I was recently infected. I just started reading a book that has got me turned on and I had to put it down lol

Haha, about the sharing, being in this community feels like a whole TMI type thing anyway (even though it really shouldn't) so this was just fine. I was actually just about to post something myself on the topic so I'm glad you already mentioned it. My symptoms are finally really disappearing so yay. I started my period yesterday and against all odds, they didn't seem to kickstart my symptoms again so I'm pretty chuffed. How are you feeling?

Still slight tingling/itching, some discharge, but no real pain. Just uncomfortable. And a very very tiny bit of pain while peeing. No visible sores but I have no idea what's going on inside. My period will be starting this week and I'm terrified to use a tampon. I just don't want to aggravate anything. And I DETEST pads!!!!! But I'm not on any meds right now, just vitamins. So I guess that's a sign that my body is trying to take care of it as best it can. I just want to feel normal down there again!!! Once I get home tomorrow I'll start taking Lysine so maybe that will help too, and I'll be making an appt with my gyno. But I have done some major retail therapy yesterday and today so at least that has helped my mood! And when I get back to work I'll be looking great even if I'm not feeling it!!! Thank you for asking!

That's great news your period didn't kick start it for you @Nal! Gives you (and me) hope for an easier time of it in the future! How long has it been now since you were diagnosed? Are you using tampons?

There is no such thing as TMI here. We've all been in the same boat and H has a way of removing modesty, where in all honesty, modesty should never have existed in the first place, in regards to discussing our sexual health.

@nal, my clitoris had a funny sensation upon arousal and orgasm for almost a yr after infection. It was like I suddenly could feel it pulsate from w in the nerve inside, not on the outside if that makes any sense.. I hated the feeling to be honest, but seems less so now. Again, I'm an extreme cases of symptoms . exception, not the rule I am! ;-)

In regards to it feeling uncomfortable when you pee, H infection can mimic a UTI in several different ways, as the virus actually infects the ganglia that has a nerve that controls the bladders contractions. Some people can't void at all and require a catheter, while some can void some, but not completely.

I also iyxhed for quite some time after my intital OB.. It will calm as time goes on. Right now your nerves are inflamed and sheathing has been broken on the nerves, so it results in paresthesia, itching, burning, pins and needles, crawling sensations, etc.... Totally normal.

Alcohol is a big no-no, especially during and shortly after your primary. I feel one of the reasons my primary was so horrific, is because I did dribk, to drink my sorrows away. Wine and beer are not triggers for me, but 6 drinks if liquor are and I have no warning. Alcohol lowers are immune system and actually does damage to our nerves, so we are actually exasperating the situation, by adding alcohol into it. Yes, I learned this the hard way unfortunately.

To me Epsom salt baths was the only thing that rekievermy itching. Try bactine spray as well.

Well because I only had them after orgasm .. Felt like I could feel internally the pulsating, which previously I'd never felt before all my life. I am soneone who's nerves really got fried getting H. I had severe neuropathy so bad, I felt like a burn victim. Then for about 7 mo ths after, had about 20 sensations a day between my vagina, anus, vagina, buttock and back of thighs of mostly crawling bug like sensations, pins and needles, burning, itching, a flutter sensation especially on back of thighs that would make you itch, cause it was like a tickle, etc... Started to calm down at 7 months to maybe 5xs a day . to now, I may get one of those sensations for a second once a day.

When you're someone that has constant symptoms, it's really hard to decipher. The only thing you can do is log everything daily for at least 8 mo ths w location, sensation. Physical signs, possible triggers, etc... That's what I had to do.
