Herpes virus in mouth

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have done my root canal 2 weeks ago. Things were going fine, but last week I noticed several sores in my mouth. I tried using salt water and applied Zilactin B gel too, but that did nothing. One of my friends who is an ENT doctor said me that I have some nerve virus (either herpital or some other type), but he said that root canal may not be the reason behind this. He prescribed me an anti-virus drug named Famvir. This virus infection started soon after my root canal and that makes me think like the root canal caused this :( .What are your suggestions? Should I need to take antibiotics prior to each dental visit as I had this virus? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

I don't think the root canal itself would be the cause of the virus, but it may have irritated the virus and caused an outbreak. Antibiotics will not help with viruses, only bacteria. Please don't take antibiotics without a cause, bad use of antibiotics is what causes some of the bacterial resistance we are dealing with. If you think what you have is possibly herpes, you could get it swabbed or if the sores are not longer present, get a blood test.
