Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed 5 days ago. I am a complete wreck. I feel absolutely horrible, emotionally and physically. I've been in a committed relationship for 2 years with no symptoms. I started to ache in my genital area after sex and then it progressively worsened. I could not urinate without extreme pain. My gyn did a culture and blood test. I tested positive for HSV2, negative for HSV1 and the IGG and IGM antibodies were negative. Does this mean I was recently exposed since I do not have the antibodies? Or maybe a false negative?

I truly have not felt this crappy ever. I'm going on 10 days. The urination is better but I am still very sore and achy. How long does this last? I am taking Valtrex 1 gram tablet AND using Acyclovir 5% ointment.

I know this is not the end of the world. I want to feel better physically and then I'll deal with the emotional issues. I have not been able to practice yoga or work out for a week, I'm just too sore and achy.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry you're in this position. It sucks, both physically and emotionally.

There are of course false negatives, but it is almost impossible after 6 months. Given that you're also experiencing severe symptoms, yes, you can conclusively say you were recently infected.
