Time to take in between antiviral medication?

Hello, I’m thinking about switching from valtrex to acyclovir. (My prodrome symptoms are constant with valtrex)

Is there a reason to give it a couple of weeks before taking a different antiviral? I’ve been on valtrex for about six months. I know I should discuss some things with my doctor, but should I wait a month with no medication before taking acyclovir? Is it a hormone thing? Any thoughts would be helpful!

I know that my doc said if acyclovir was not working well for me we could switch. She did not mention waiting. I take acyclovir 2x per day and going on 6 weeks of discomfort, no lesions however and it is getting slowly better. Close to wearing underwear all day and not miserable.

Check with your doc and read up - but mine did not mention when I was complaining about things still being very Off for being on drugs for a couple of months straight.

I just had to switch from Valtrex to acyclovir 2x per day. I was having alot of tingling.. I've been on the new medicine for a week now and the tingling has slowed down... I'm hoping it finally stops soon.
