I have HSV1 genitally and he has HSV2

I need help understanding what to do. I found out I have HSV1 genitally about two months ago and started looking for otgers to date with H. The problem is, most guys online on dating sites have HSV2. So, I’m now dating a guy with HSV2. When it’s time for us to get physical, I know it’s like being with someone who doesn’t have H, more for me than for him. I want to believe that the fact I have HSV1 genitally protects me moreso than others without either strain, but is that true? Also, I’m wondering if it helps to cover the area on his thigh where he breaks out. Would that be a good idea or not at all helpful?
