herpes type 1 on genital

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I contacted herpes type 1 on my genitals while receiving oral sex. The man tested negative for everything and I don't believe he had any cold sores on his lips so i'm not sure how I got it we did not have sex just oral sex. I have only had my initial outbreak which was a year and a half ago. I was wondering because i have herpes type 1 on my genital if I used condoms and did not receive any oral sex if the rate of transmission will be low? also is it true that because herpes type 1 is usually on the mouth it is not suppose to be on the genitals and it is not used to the area?

thank you

The fact is that herpes can transmit to any mucus membrane. Eyes, ears, mouth, genitals, anus, etc...

You are correct that condoms help prevent transmission. So does taking suppression medicine daily and abstaining during out break. But risk will always be there to some degree. That's why disclosure is so important.

You should talk to a doctor about suppression medicine like Valtrex and similar stuff. Talk to them about preventing transmission, too.

If you need more advice or support, we will be here.
