taking valtrex for daily suppression

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am currently seeing this boy who does not have herpes and I started taking valtrex to reduce the spread. I have herpes type 1 on my genitals. I am getting bad headaches from valtrex and I was wondering if anyone else who is with a significant other who also does not have herpes does not use daily suppressants?

I had headaches from it too. I would take it closer to bed time and it helps. I have had HSV 2 for 32 years and for the first 25 I didn’t take anything for suppression, though I rarely ever got a sore. I passed the virus on to only one partner that I am aware of, successfully was in a marriage and had two kids without any transmission issues.

@Bellapink

My friend cut her valtrex to 500 mg a day instead of 1 gram and she stopped getting headaches. If you are already taking 500, maybe you can use a pill cutter and half it. I would think it would provide you some protection but may cut the headaches. Drink a lot of water with too. I was getting a few headaches in the beginning, they are gone now.I take 1gram a day. It took a few weeks but with water and motrin they were tolerable
