Oral sex?

Recommended Posts

Hey @verysadgirl,

I wish I could come with better news than Michgirl73, but she's direct and correct.  Though, without an outbreak and on suppressants, and for the fact hsv2 much prefers the genital region, the risk is greatly reduced.   Dental dams, just like a condom on a male reduce these risks further.  It does always pose a risks, and demands precautions, and of course disclosure, but I promise you can still enjoy a healthy, active sex life, and in the right time with the right person it can absolutely include oral.

I just was watching a video that was done on this site years ago with a expert. In the interview he said yes u can have oral sex, however not during an active outbreak or you get infected. He also said the risk after that is low, risk still exists but if u are on suppressive therapy and not having an outbreak the chances of passing it’s very low plus u always want your partner to understand the risk because there still is that chance even if it’s low. I wished they get a cure for this stuff.

I’ve watched that video as well. The doctor seemed to suggest (and I’ve since read several other sources saying the same) that it is highly unlikely that someone can spread HSV2 to someone orally— tiny risk still there, but like with all other contact, on antivirals and avoiding intercourse/intimate contact during an outbreak keeps that risk  really small. Seemed to me the doc on the video was essentially sayin, “go for it.”

My understanding is it’s much easier for someone to give you hsv1 from their mouth to your genitals than it is for you to give hsv2 from your genitals to their mouth. If you are a lesbian you could use a dental dam as other people have mentioned. If you’re not, most guys have no idea what they’re doing down there, so you’re probably not missing much.
