I have genital hsv1, can I kiss my partner if he has a cold sore?

I’ve had genital hsv 1 for over 4 years. My partner has what appears to be a cold sore. I pecked him quickly when he had it, and I’m pretty sure I’ve had a cold sore in the past. My question is does kissing someone with a cold sore trigger a cold sore in someone who already has the virus? Thanks!
