Kissing someone who has HSV1

Is it safe to just be kissing someone normally who has HSV1 orally? I have googled and googled and I'm not really finding an answer. Should I protect our kisses to avoid catching HSV1 orally? Do we need to wrap ourselves in saran wrap before every kiss? Im really scared. Unfortunately I've already contracted it from him unknowingly from his mouth to my genitals. I would really prefer to not have it in both places.

My understanding is that once you contract it and it's out of the initial outbreak, you won't contract it in a different spot again. So, if you have it genitally, you shouldn't get it orally after the fact.
