Should I get tested again?! Multiple questions

Has anyone been tested multiple times & gotten different results??

I was recently swab tested on an healing sore but I had been going through a lot. I was putting my vagina through a lot- swimming, wet undergarments, tight clothes, constant travel. Was scratching at it & irritating it with body soaps. It tested positive for Bacterial Vaginois & hsv 2.

Could it have been a possible false positive because of the BV & harsh conditions I put my body through? I’m traveling for 2 years & am thinking I should wait to get tested again when I am back in America.

Also... can your hsv- partners still going down on you without protection? I’m  trying to understand the risk of it...

Hsv 2 is a virus. It would not be affected by bacterial vaginosis as it is a different type of organism altogether. No test is 100% accurate but the swab is the most accurate way to test for herpes. Have you had an IGG blood test as well?

Well what I have read is swab tests can give false negative from a healing sore. Otherwise positives are pretty much accurate. But then no tests are 100% accurate. I read one case where an individual was positive through swab test but later after 6 months or so blood work showed negative. I will suggest an igg blood work after 4 months or so.

Thank you for replying! I guess I will wait 6 months & get an Igg blood test. Is that more accurate? Does it measure the antibodies in my blood?

Yes it has better accuracy. It will actually measure your antibodies. Also go for type specific hsv1 and hsv2 igg blood test so that you know what type it is. Dont go for igm. Also dont go for pcr blood test. If any doctor is recommending for pcr blood test then probably you need to visit another doctor.

I was under the impression a swab/culture from a sore was more accurate than the blood test?

A swab test IS more accurate. It detects the virus whereas IGG tests detect antibodies. Not everyone's immune system is the same so not everyone will develop antibodies at the same rate. Some people will never show a positive IGG but if the virus was found in your sore then you have it.

This happened to me. I had a positive swab for hsv2 and 6 months later still have negative igg blood work. My doctors are all saying it was a false positive. But we know I make antibodies bc I've always been positive for hsv1 by blood work. I also have a rare case bc I get soars in my private region for an auto immune disorder, so soars are not alarming. My doctors are getting tired of me requesting igg blood test because they all agree that I'm negative.
