Daily suppressant v taking during an outbreak

Hello everyone!

I have just recently been diagnosed with HSV2 and am on the tail end of my initial outbreak. I have been taking the daily meds for 8 days now and have had no side effects. My gf is aware and is going to get tested herself so that we can plan accordingly for our continued sex life. I am hoping people can comment on taking the meds daily vs taking them solely when they have an outbreak. My concern comes from two perspectives: 1) I am not a fan of taking any sort of drug on a daily basis, just because I do believe in the bodies' natural ability to take care of itself without introducing prefabricated meds and 2) I am about to leave for some long term (8 months or more) travel and am not sure if I will be able to get prescriptions while I am on the road.

I am just wondering if there are any stats out there that show that taking daily has a substantially more positive result than not. I am sure that this is a highly variable thing, but perhaps there have been some clinical trials or things like that, or maybe there are some folks who have personally done both and can share their experiences.

I thank you in advance and look forward to your responses.

Glad you're on the tail end of your first OB; I know it's rough!

When I was first diagnosed, I was finishing my Masters degree and chose to do suppressive therapy to outweigh the stress I knew I was, and would incur. I had no issues for 7-8 months. 1 outbreak triggered by sex and not taking meds for a couple days, prodome symptoms maybe 2 or 3 times prior. I moved and changed meds/pharmacies and seemed to have bad luck with my new meds so I quit them. I do have to say I do have more OBs than I did while on suppressive therapy. I am a girl too so hormones and sex being a trigger for me play a little more into that.

It's all in the individual! I personally have always disliked taking medicine and my prideful self wants to tell myself to get over it and just go naturale..but the other self remembers how awesome it was to never have any problems when on suppressive therapy and I'm diving into that idea again!!

Type 2 here. Only ever taken vitamins. When done daily, i have no outbreaks or prodrome symptoms. If i fall off schedule and get an outbreak then start back up the vitamins, the outbreak is gone in 2-3 days.

L-lysine, vitamin C & d3, liquid chlorophyll, & echinacea & goldenseal extract.
