Currently on 500mg of valtrex and was given a prescription for 1000mg for OB. Dr said I could even just double up on my current prescription if needed or on vacation and was having symptoms. Just wanted to see what everyone thought on this. Do you take 2 at the same time instead of 1 for 10 days? Or do you take one in the morning and one at night? What do you believe works best/quickest?

I'm on acyclovir but I take one in the morning and one at night. During my outbreak i was told to take it 3 times a day and make sure they were evenly spread out for full effectiveness. Don't remember the science behind that.

I'm on acyclovir, 400mg twice a day and it completely prevents flair-ups for me. I was on something before acyclovir (can't remember what it was called), but it didn't help much.

For episodic therapy, the CDC recommends 500 mg valtrex 2x daily for 3 days OR 1g (so two pills at the same time in your case) once daily for 5 days. 

If it were me, I think I would choose to take the 500 mg 2x daily for 3 days.
