New herpes-owner, any tips on how to keep the region dry?

Recommended Posts

Diagnosed with herpes (no idea which type for now) yesterday! It is, in my doctor’s opinion, a very severe first outbreak. My peri-anal region is covered in open sores, which leads me to this question: what can I use or do to maintain the region dry? As the butt crack is usually humid and closed region, it is hard for the sores to dry out!  I’m a female by the way!

Panty liners? Bandages? Creams?!

Any tips for managing the pain are welcome. So far baths are the only thing that soothes it.

Hello,

I had a majority of my first outbreak in my perineum area and I used lidocaine cream and hydrocortisone to heal my open blisters and cuts.   My first outbreak lasted about 6 weeks and it was horrible.  The lidocaine cream definitely made a difference.  I am not sure if you can buy that over the counter but I got mine prescribed by an OBGYN.
