So I know exactly when my first outbreak was and it was around this time 4 years ago. Now its back, again for the 3rd time (I don't remember having one 2 yrs ago, could have been mild) If I wasn't so in tune with my body... I wouldn't even know I was having one now. I have 2 very small visible blisters in the usual spot. Last year around the exact same time I had one too however it was crazy prodrome and hard to walk. This time I barely know its there. Which I am thanking God for. I am a little on the anxious side bc I hope the blister pain doesn't get worse. But this time seems a lot different. I didn't get the razor burn / tingle feeling where it is almost uncomfortable to sit. And I woudn't even know I had an OB if it wasn't for the excellent quality of my glorious iphone6plus. Some things that may help. Last yr I was on Valtrax 1g generic. This yr I take 2 400mg of acyclovir capsules twice a day.. I think this pill/capsule is better for me. (Dosing and capsule form-maybe a better release of the drug?) This is my 4th year with the virus and I am hoping that perhaps it has decided to calm the f*&^ down and not put me out of commission for 2 weeks like it always has in the past. Some questions- Anyone feel slight itchy tingle on their skin in other spots...Seems like I had that on the right side of my stomach the last two weeks , could that be the virus? Other symptoms I had b4 OB this time: Sore throat when swallowing Headache Insomnia Itchy anus/rectum/ feels like a tear or fissure inside Stomach issue-gas pockets BLOATED STOMACH (I have noticed I get this with every OB) Anyone experience these symptoms b4 an hsv2 ob? Just wondering. All of these symptoms plus the time of the year made have an idea something was coming. What are your TRIED and TRUE best supps/practices to keep obs away (even the anniversary ones-lol )? I am currently on Prenatal plus vitamins, just started up again with Zinc, Echinacea with Goldenseal and Lysine. I tried Red marine algae pills at the highest required dosage for suppression and they did nothing to suppress hsv for me. Anyway, there is hope. I for one am thankful that this is my weakest OB yet. And I pray it doesn't get worse this time around. Something tells me it won't . I have been with my bf for over a year (I told him about my hsv last year around this time) and we are moving in together soon. I can't lie , the last 4 years have not been easy for me. But if my obs are like this for the rest of my life I can dig it. The ones I have had b4 literally made me want to die. I pray for ALL of you, that your obs continue to get less and less and become a NON ISSUE in all of your lives. My most positive post yet. Never thought I would see the day come. Oh man God bless you hang in there... I hope the outbreaks stop . Just bought oregano oil and grapefruit seed oil ... To add to the arsenal ... Google them I hope they work . This is so annoying .

Thanks @jackie5678 ! I went off it bc it caused sexual side effects and the herpes causes enough sexual side effects so no thanks lol ...

Thnx @golddust086 That's exactly it.... it's not like it's something you can just bring up to certain people or say your having a shitty week or need to rest b/c you're having a herpes ob. I can't even tell my mom I am so tired and sick bc I am having another ob bc then she will worry... she don't get it. She knows I have it but she also knows I just had an ob a week and a half ago. She's just an annoying worrier n will add to my stress. Well at least its an ob and not tingling for no reason lol that's the only comfort I have in this!!!! I am going to go to the vitamin shoppe and grab some grapefruit seed extract and oil of oregano to add to my supps... any other suggestions are welcome.

Dancer, I don't just use anti virals, I also take zinc, multi vitamin, vitamin C , probiotics, red marine algae and just stopped coffee. I also try to meditate ..Today I used a PREPARATION H wipe which has witch hazel and held it on the sore for a bit... when i removed it I saw that there was a yellowish liquid (the virus I assume) on the wipe. I basically held it on and then changed to a clean part of the wipe until there wasn't anymore virus left on the wipe. Hoping most of it drained out... then I covered a q tip with medicated gold bond baby powder and placed it on the sore. The powder contains zinc oxide , cornstarch and kaolin... all which are said to promote healing. N if I said the past year I was just estimating... it has been in the past 6 -9 mths... wondering if it just has to do with having more sex or maybe sex + job. Got a new job yesterday in a different field. Hoping it is the right change for me. Start training march 2nd.

So it looks like another sore.... One after another awesome . I got a week break in between . Starting to think the suppresives prolong the attack. I just looked down there and see another blister forming . Unreal.

Have you been to the Drs? Are you on suppresives?

Getbetter I am starting to think I've contracted hsv1 in my genitals in the past 6mths from my bf as he gets cold sores on his mouth . He has never given me oral during an outbreak but he could have been shedding the virus. That's the only thing I can think of . I got the hsv2 about 4 years ago . But come to think of it this all started in the past 6mths since I've been seeing my bf .

@jackie have you used gabapentin for the nerve pain associated with herpes?

@jackie5678 thanks so much! I hope this change is for the better and I may go back on the neurontin (gabapentin) and give it one more try . Don't want to feel like this ! Thanks for your input everyone it def gives me a little more assurance .

Ugh !!! Glad to have a buddy! I have had it almost 4 years now !!!!!! It's only been in this past year that I've experienced the lingering . When I first found out I had hsv2 I was put on acyclovir ...800mg twice a day. Then about 2 years ago I switched to valtrex when I got insurance . Starting to wonder if it's the valtrex ? Never had this problem with the acyclovir ... But that doesn't make sense to me bc they are both essentially the same mess just hit the blood stream different from what I've heard.../ been to a few different Drs no one really had an answer . My primary put me on samples of neurontin for nerve pain but then people on this forum told me that's a big drug for a little problem. But come to think of it it isn't really a little problem it messes with my life !!!! I stopped the neurontin. .. Come to think of it the discomfort wasn't as bad last week on the neurontin. But I'm still undecided and just hoping it will subside . The thing that boggles my mind the most is that my obs should be getting better instead of worse !

I wouldn't mind as much if I just got the outbreak , dealt with it n got on with my life . But after its gone I don't understand why it lingers like this .

So my outbreak ended about two weeks ago . There looks like there is a bit of scar tissue left where the sore was (just basically a clear slightly raised bump ) n it still stings / tingles and feels uncomfortable when I sit stand or walk a certain way. I'm on valtrex suppressive therapy . I'm tired of this. I feel like I just healed from the last ob n now the cycle started all over again. I'm literally sick over this. I'm not looking for sympathy or even an answer because I don't feel like what anyone says will help me . Some days I literally just don't want to live anymore bc I don't want to go through the rest of my life dealing with this bullshit. I don't get why it takes so long to actually stop bothering me after an outbreak . After this script of valtrex im switching over to acyclovir ... I know they are basically the same but I guess it can't hurt. I can't afford the valtrex anymore anyway bc I quit my job and no longer have insurance. This disease made my job really hard and it sucks that I feel like I had to quit to reduce stress bc I don't want more outbreaks. .life is fucking stress how do you avoid it ???? You don't . I feel like a failure and feel like this has taken over my life . Today was my last day for coffee. I sometimes wish that I wasn't here anymore . It sucks when your walking around n have a constant pain that reminds you that you have herpes on the daily. I'm just sick of this . I try very hard to be positive , pray , be calm etc. just very low today . Going on an interview . But sometimes I wonder wtf is the point ? What job isn't stressful? Feel like I have to walk on eggshells eith life. Wanted to go to gym today . Scared to aggravate the area that already feels like it hasn't fully healed . Has anyone had this problem where it feels like forever to just cease stinging / throbbing / tingling at times ? Any remedies at all? I try to keep area dry , don't shave in the area etc... I'm at a loss . Very tired of this life .

I was on zoloft for almost 2 years it helped me immensely ! I'm sorry your husband went through that.

PS- Dancer , my job is completely burning me out mentally and physically. .I just put my 2 weeks in...hope to find my niche elsewhere... bc this is not working for me... trying to take the steps to make myself healthy outside and in .

Thanks guys. I am also bipolar and clinically depressed and the drug supposedly works wonders for that as well. So I look at it as killing two birds with one stone. I will talk to my Dr. about it though. I suggested other meds and she said this is bomb for the pain associated with outbreaks. I should get tested to see if I have HSV 1...bc my outbreaks never lingered until I was with my current bf. Maybe he was shedding the disease during oral and gave it to me? That is the only thing I can think of. And the HSV1 is making my HSV2 worse? I dunno sounds stupid but its the only explanation . I've had many obs b4 I even knew I had herpes and I don't remember this tingling /stinging/throbbing lingering so long.

ugh its horrible... but this is my 4th year I don't get it.... i am wondering if my bf gave me his HSV 1 ? n now that I have 2 strains this is why this is happening? I don't know if that's even possible that hsv 1 would make my hsv2 worse... I don't know?

I am going to try it for awhile if it makes a difference I guess I will take my chances, I am tired of living like this ;(

Hey guys. So for some reason my last 2 outbreaks were different. After they have healed and the sore went completely away, I still have tingling and stinging at the sight of the sore. It isn't sore to the touch but I sometimes feel it when walking or sitting in certain position. I talked to my doctor about it and she prescribed me Gabapentin (Neurontin) or Horizant is the new timed release version. She had a bunch of samples so I am trying it out. I believe it should take a few days to get in my system and start working on the nerve pain. I am praying and hoping it works!!!!!! I will keep you all posted. I also wanted to see if anyone has had good results with this!? Let me know... I am hoping and praying that this medication works. It is annoyinf enough that I have to deal with outbreaks. I hate that fact that the tingling/stinging lasts months after the ob subsides. Fingers crossed. Please give me your feedback if you experience this / have had good results with this medication or other medication for this problem. Thank you ! ! !

Oh I know there are many discordant couples... I wasn't referring to the night of my wedding having sex... just the fact that I don't want to go through my wedding day with a sore on my vage bc it isn't fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Dancer, You always answer so quickly and informative. Thanks for the info. Its just a little frustrating because it seems this year has been the worst. I have had hsv2 for over 3 years. Maybe it is because I know I have it and am more attentive to it now. I just hope it eventually calms down. I know it could be worse but its just put a damper on many things for me. Bc even after the sore is gone I usual have residual pinching and pain which can really suck.... Going to a new dr on the 16th, he actually delivered me. So maybe he can offer me some better treatment for the post pain and give me a bit more insight. After the last outbreak I also started taking red marine algae. 3 pills a day from pure planet bc I heard it was an excellent anti viral... guess it isn't that good... I haven't gone a year without an OB. I just want to get through a year and then 2 ! That's my hope. Maybe someday. Also scared about planning things trips, outings etc .... bc I never know when one will strike. That's the major problem I have with this disease, I like to be in control and I'm not. What if I get married someday and boom here's an OB... I guess it is one day at a time but I truly can't help the what ifs that spring up in my mind. Wish there was a better treatment for the actual sore itself that really took all the pain away and made the duration shorter... but I am just thankful this time was not as bad as last. The sore is gone now but I still feel the pain . Hope it subsides soon. Nothing I can't deal with I guess. Thanks again for all your help.

So in the summer I had an ob and I kept messing with it , neosporin, tea tree oil, calmoseptine, and honestly I feel like all that made it worse. This time I put tea tree oil on it once and left it alone n honestly it wasn't as painful. It has gone through the phases the scab has fallen off n now its kinda like a red sore. I guess I need to give that time to heal too. My sore always comes back in the same spot n its a terrible spot bc when I walk it rubs. But I think I got through the worst of it. I am trying to be positive and see that this time wasn't as bad... although it still was very uncomfortable and I literally feel like all I want to do is sleep. How long do you guys usually find the pain has fully gone away after the scab falls off? I want to be back to normal soon. Also I took 2g of valtrex a day. I just resigned from my job. Going to lose my insurance. Valcyclovir is very expensive w/out insurance so I am a little nervous about making the switch to acyclvr. However, I break through on the valtrex . Anyone have any experience with obs -valcyc. vs acyc. ? I know acyc is a lot cheaper without insurance.

Thanks @mmissiouri I just know how bad I suffer with it . Don't want him dealing with the same . He probably has it. I had so much clear watery discharge but I thought it was from ovulation. I'm so tired of this . Have to go to work tomorrow Im a teacher. It's going to be a very uncomfortable day. I hate this
