  1. Hi everyone - have luckily been outbreak free for a while, without meds! However, an outbreak popped up this week. Sometimes my OBs include internal - this occurred with my primary outbreak, but not consistent since then. I was wondering what to do to treat them when they are internal? I've been taking ibuprofen, and meds. But not sure how to treat them otherwise. Anything I can do? They are really causing some discomfort. Thanks!

  2. So, I think I finally know the culprit. Not herpes. My bicycle :( I took up biking to work when I moved. The irritation started when I moved. I haven't been biking in the cold, and I also haven't had the same irritation. The psst two weeks have been beautiful! So I've been biking again. Guess what's back? Yup - the irritation. Ah Crap. Why are vaginas so sensitive?!

  3. @WCSDancer2010 - I totally agree with that too! I just like the idea of changing the narrative of the damsel in distress. Herpes does not make me a person who is in need of a boyfriend to make everything better. But I will say, my love life is much more mature because of herpes. I have really learned a lot about vulnerability, openness, and letting go of anxiety and rejection. Here's to herpes!

  4. So I don't typically get actual lesions anymore. Just irritation and redness. I've been off antivirals for about a month, and am having some mild irritation. So how long do I wait for any sexual activity? To be clear, we're not having intercourse, but if I feel better tomorrow, how long to wait to fool around? I took meds and expect I'll feel better later today or tomorrow. Not clear what to do without actual sores.

  5. Exposure to herpes should be enough for a test at planned parenthood. And blood tests are pretty accurate of you get the right kind. The Elisa definitely had good accuracy overall. Good enough that if you've been exposed, and have symptoms, they should be testing you.

  6. As someone who deals with health research funding, albeit for different issues, there's a lot of validity to what @sanngrior is saying regarding researchers at universities. I whole heartedly believe that big pharma does a lot of crappy things. And no, they are not likely targeting their resources torward a cure or vaccine. And they certainly aren't putting their lobbying dollars toward it either. But there are many other avenues to accessing research funds. Take a look at the NIH budget sometime. Herpes just isn't that high on the list. We won't likely see anything for herpes before HIV. A lot more prestige in that. And that's what academic researchers often crave.

  7. So of course I got a cold during the process of decreasing. After the last night of a half dose, an outbreak started. It's uncomfortable but not really that bad. Should I continue with my original plan and go sans medication? Or treat it for three days and go back to no meds once I finish? I ran out of Epsom and will get more today, so that will certainly help.

To complicate things I've started seeing someone who is pretty amazing. Disclosing this weekend after a day trip. Already laid groundwork for slow going around sex. Plan on taking a vacation from the meds to see how my body does, but will go back on once we move further. I just really need some time for my body to get control. But of course am concerned about transmission.

  8. I think there's a mental component to taking the anti virals for me. Almost like I'm not the healthy person I used to be. I've done a lot to manage stress and diet, but I think I might be overthinking. Going to go off the meds for now and see what happens. I'm a healthy person and need to get back to seeing myself as such. And quite frankly, why take medicine that isn't working?
