Confused whether I have herpes or not

Hello and Welcome!

Well, without a swab you just plain won't know for sure but just because it disappeared after you took the Valtrex doesn't mean that the Valtrex did it... in fact, Valtrex usually doesn't work *that* fast for primary OB's ( it will once you have a good healthy base of antibodies to work with it)... so odds are it was coincidental and that it was some kind of irritation or canker sore as your Dr said (and next time, go to an OBGYN... their viral swabs won't be out of date ... SMH :P )

If your guy is using Valtrex AND condoms your odds of getting H is less than your odds of getting hurt/dying in a car accident ...

Actually, what you may want to do would be to contact Westover Heights clinic and get them to do a script for the Western Blot test ... because that one is the Gold Standard of herpes testing (the one you were tested for likely looked of 1 or 2 proteins ... WB looks for 14) ... It's VERY rare to get a false negative so long after exposure but it wouldn't be impossible ... so the WB would give you a definite answer ....

Dr. Lisa Taulbee at the Westover Heights Clinic,http://westoverheights.com/ (503) 226-6678 ... she can order the test for you through Quest Labs. It costs $5/minute for a consult and I believer $200 for the test … cheap IMO for clarity and/or peace of mind.
