Oral sex and unprotected sex

Hi everyone. I am newly ghsv1 20 year old (found out one week ago). This is all so new to me and I am still trying to learn and cope. I guess something that has been on my mind which I want opinions/experience on is oral and unprotected sex. I started seeing my ex boyfriend again right before I found out I have ghsv1 and now he always wants to use protection ( condoms and dental)... "for now." If we start seeing each other seriously again (we broke up after 5 years) is it wrong for me to not want to use protection. I know he may get it but the only fear of herpes is stigma I am not posing any threat to his health. How soon should I question his anxiety etc? Regardless if he is "the one" or not if we are in a serious long term relationship I will not want to use protection for everything/at all. Am I asking too much?

I think I would leave it up to him as to how he wants to protect himself. He may slack up on his own after a while
