  1. What’s up all!!

I just wanna let you guys in on my first year of having hsv-2. I’ve had a very little first outbreak 2 small “sores” that were kinda apart, was scared went to urgent care and requested blood work and full STD PANEL, everything came back negative except for HSV-1 which I had as a young boy, and HSV-2 via IGG blood test. I must have had it for a while since it takes a while to build antibodies ( my levels were like 8 or9). Another reason I was scared was my gf was having UTI symptoms which she tested positive for it but I had her go get tested for HSV and she was positive via IGM...she was given antivirals but she only took them for a week. Now fast forward to here, we do not have any outbreaks or they might be so small we don’t even notice. We have a great sex life and are going strong. We do not blame each other because we both didn’t know who carried it first. But anyways just wanted to give update on my year and how it doesn’t bother my at having this disease, I forget about it most of the time. Thank for reading and god bless you all!

Yes, antibodies take around 12 weeks to develop, so whether there's a physical manifestation (outbreak) or not, the antibodies will be present.

But definitely consider getting the Western Blot. It's going to cost you more out of pocket, but will give you a definitive diagnosis. (IgG has rates of false negatives/positives.)

But regardless of which test you get, you won't be able to pinpoint when you got herpes, just whether or not you have it now. The only way to start to roughly pin down a timeline is if you had a definitive negative test in the past and then got a definitive positive test.

Here's an article to check out for more detail:

So if you have a positive IGG at like 10, would that be safe to say is definite positive or would western blot be worth getting?

  3. @mr_hopp okay thanks, I’m more worried about making sure the girl is safe, just because condoms will be used initially but once we get more intimate condom usage does lessen or don’t use any at all. I’m also wondering have you ever not used condoms and were on antivirals and know that you have not passed it on with previous relationships?

    Hey Jaymes.

Im happy your taking this well and educating yourself on all the precautions.

Sadly theres always a chance to spread it. But supression therapy is a great way to ensure your covered with the add on of using a condom.

Id still go talk to the doctor and ask about your options.  Its always the best bet.

@kinator Yeah I don’t have any symptoms or breakouts. So sometimes I forget I have it but it does cross my mind at times and I wanna be as safe ass possible.

The only way not to transmit ... is by not having sex haha. There’s always a chance!

Haha!.. I know that, I’m just wondering has anyone not used antivirals or condoms and know they have not passed it on

  6. What’s up community!!

I found out I have genital hsv2 7 months ago via IGG with numbers I think at 10..I guess I had a slight initial outbreak with 2 little “lesions” on shaft of penis but they did not ooze or anything like that nor did i have pain. I haven’t had any lesions or blisters show back up  or any prodome symptoms. I also have oral HSV 1 since I was very youg...Should I jump on antivirals to prevent transmission or would you say I’m not that “contagious” and in dormancy? I’m just looking into options if I get into a relationship, obviously condoms are gunna be used but later on in the relationship we all know condoms aren’t being used..has anyone not passed the virus without taking antivirals or condom  use?
