  1. I suppose you could get hyperpigmentation (darkened skin) from herpes, as you could with any injury to the skin.  But labia, and genitalia in general are not always uniformly pigmented.  Plenty of people who were never sexually active have hyper-pigmented ares of their genitalia so don't sweat it.

  2. I'm sorry for what you're going through. The first outbreak is always the worst! Although depending on your immune system it's hard to tell right now how often you'll have outbreaks or how severe they'll be.

Check prices on GoodRx to see what the out of pocket costs are for Acyclovir or Valcyclovir--suppressive meds may be affordable for you.  Also, tea tree oil applied daily "down there" can be helpful and some find the supplement L-Lysine to be helpful as well. So BAM three things you can do to reduce outbreaks!

You should also do what you can to keep your immune system strong, because outbreaks are more likely to happen when it's run down.  Use common sense measures:  Get enough sleep, eat well, regular moderate exercise, etc.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Hello,

I'm so sorry I didn't see this post until now.

Your first outbreak could have been that illness in April. The blood test would tell you if you had H, but it can't tell the site.  You may have had it in your mouth if you gave him oral sex and he transmitted H to you.

I doubt very much those cysts on your ovaries were herpes.  I've never heard of that before, and don't see how it could be physiologically possible, since transmission requires skin to skin contact (not skin to ovaries contact)  Cysts are OFTEN seen on ultrasound.  You may have been ovulating (looks like a cyst) or maybe they were just ovarian cysts--usually painless.

Yes, what you thought were in-growns may have been herpes.  The only way to know for sure is to have one of them cultured if they arise again.

Suppressive meds (I'm on Valtrex) are very helpful and reduce the rate of transmission to others.  Talk to your doctor about that.  Being on a suppressive meds give me a little peace of mind and it may do the same for you too.

  4. I've heard of people losing hair from stress but not from antivirals.   Have you tried topical Rogaine, or taking Biotin supplements?  Also, I've heard that topical Melatonin (yes the supplement that makes you sleep) can help A LOT with hair re-growth.  It's made in a cream or lotion form and placed on the scalp at night.  HTH.

  5. Hello all, I'm older than most if you (54) but two years ago I contracted herpes from a rebound relationship after ending long and difficult marriage.  Very fit and still attractive even at my age, would like to date while opportunities still exist but it's really been an emotional struggle.  I'm female and live in the Washington DC area.  Would very much like to chat, find/give support to someone in a similar circumstance.
