Herpes transmission risk..."Boxer short region"

Recommended Posts

Hi...I'm a female with HSV2. My site of initial infection and subsequent outbreaks occur near and around my vaginal opening.

I read about the boxer short region as being the region that HSV2 can occupy. That I understand.

My question is this...Am I capable of shedding the virus from anywhere within this boxer short region even though my outbreaks occur only near my vagina? I'm super confused. If this is the case, then a condom is essentially useless and I'd be able to pass on the virus from just being "spooned" if I were not on suppressive meds

I'm hoping that it means if the site of the initial infection and subsequent outbreaks is on the butt or upper thigh then there's the risk of transmission from the boxer short region.

Would someone please try to clarify this for me? :)

Hi jj1966

Yes - the understanding as we know it (I've seen information change a lot over the 35 years I've had H ) is that it will pretty much stay/shed in the area where you originally were infected... so if you are mostly getting yours around the vagina, the boxer region should be fine. However, I would use the FC2 condom (female condom) when possible for several reasons.

1) it covers more area and

2) given that most guys over age 35-40 don't do well at all with condoms, this works better for all involved, young AND old, and will make it easier for you to get guys to comply with the idea of always using a condom ;)
